Seeking Reviews/recommendations of Annapolis Area Ob/gyns

I have my first prenatal appointment coming up in a week, and am having trouble deciding which OB/GYN group to see. I have appts. with three reputable ob/gyn groups in the Annapolis and Gambrills area; Annapolis, Chesapeake Women's Care and Women. I have heard varying things about each, so am having trouble making a final decision. Does anyone have thoughts on any of these groups? Also, one of the above groups has placed me with a certified nursing professional for my first appointment, which gives me a weird feeling. Any thoughts about seeing a CNP for your first prenatal? Appreciate any feedback others can provide. Have a great day!

What can I do next?

I have been very happy with Chesapeake Womens' Care. However, even though the Gambrills office is closer to my home, I feel it is worth the trip to the Annapolis office, as the staff there are much friendlier. When you are pregnant, they will schedule you with each doctor there so you can feel comfortable with whomever ends up delivering your child. You can specify your preference and they will try accomodate, if possible. Dr. Penn is fantastic, and so is Dr. Leuke. Actually, they all are great and have wonderful bedside manner. The only doc I was not thrilled with was Dr. Prichep (spelling?), whom I felt did not explain things well at all and not the best bedside manner, but he did a good job on my son's circumcision. I now see Dr. Keith, and she is good about listening, answering questions, and is very attentive.

I go to Chesapeake Women's Care. But have not been through a pregnancy there.I'm there bcuz my Dr is a PCOS specialist. But regarding a Nurse Practioner. They are highly knowledgeable. My nurse pratitioner was the firtility specialist in her group and I never saw the Dr that she billed under. It was the CNP's advice & diagnosis that caught my PCOS and she that put the plan together to help with my infirtility issues. I did what she said and at 42 got pregnant with no drug or intervention help. She saw me up until my 4th month before I was required to find an OB. I bless the day I found my CNP - I believe my son is here in large part because of her.

I know the above post is old, but I cannot seem to find any new reviews of Chesapeake Women's Care. So, here is what I am experiencing now, in 2011.

I had a miscarriage in early 2010 and went through it all at CWC. Dr. Lueke did my D&C and Dr. Wells Nelson met with my husband and I, in the office, a few days before the procedure. Dr. Wells is the best and Dr. Lueke is a great Doctor.
Fast forward, I am pregnant with a healthy pregnancy and go once every month. I see a new Dr. every month and some are not fitting the bill, not to mention that some of the staff (not the entire staff) aren't the greatest lately either.
First example: 2 months ago I see a new Doctor, Dr. Kay Seuss. She was okay, listened and answered questions. However, her nurse sucked! The nurse was rude, didn't talk to me when taking me back and dropped me at the bathroom without any instructions for the urine culture. This was my 2nd visit, so I was not sure which cup to use, do I leave in the bathroom, etc. I bring it out and she's like leave it in there, then left me with the pressure cuff on, another nurse had to take it off. Then, she was not very personable and I didn't care for her manner.

Second: I go a month ago and saw Wendy Hammon, NP. Wendy is the best NP I have ever seen. She is sweet, personable, and truly cares about the patient. Well, I go to check out after a great visit and the checkout/appointment lady had a bad attitude. I tried to be nice to her and she was just in a fowl mood.

Lastly: Okay, so I go in October and see Dr. Edwards. Well, let's just say she is in a hurry. Why? I couldn't tell you! When asking about vitamins she was like that brand has a lot of Vitamin A in it. I was confused and asked again, and again she was like "it has a lot of vitamin A." So, I was like then I shouldn't take it? That's bad? So, I had to clarify, and then she said "you shouldn't take it, it's not good for you." I said to her "I needed you to say don't take it, because just saying "it has a lot of Vitamin A in it, doesn't really tell me DON'T take it!" I felt like she was saying "You should know this, didn't you go to medical school!" Um, NO! Then, she stopped me while I was asking my questions by walking over to do the fetal heart monitor, like saying "your question time is up!," without saying it aloud. She listened to the heartbeat for like 2 seconds and was done. I do not recommend her, her bedside manner stinks and I'm not the only who I know who has seen her who thinks so.

I saw Dr. Prichep once. He is old-school and I don't care for how short he is with his patients or how little information he shares.
I am seriously reconsidering my OB/GYN and switching in the next month. I have conflicting thoughts/feelings on seeing so many doctors and a random physician delivering my child.
Summary: The not-so-great support staff, a few Doctors who need a lesson in bed-side manner (which is the most important thing), a moody checkout person, and no personalization to my care...may equal them losing a patient. By the way, not all the nurses have issues, just the one tall lady with short, two-toned hair. The rest are amazing, more amazing then some of the doctors. It is sad for me to have to write this, but it is true and things have just gone down hill since my experience with them in 2010. I also have a friend who had a bad experiences with a miscarriage this past month, and that put a really, really BAD taste in my mouth. I hope this helps someone and I hope others respond so that we can get a better "whole-picture" look at the OB's in the surrounding area. Thanks.

Women's OB-GYN at Anne Arundel Medical Center is very good, in my opinion. Melissa Moen is the chief doc there; the practice is large, but i"ve never encountered a doctor on staff who wasn't personable and smart. Office staff is sharp, appointments relatively easy to get. They were, let's see, my fourth attempt to find a good ob-gyn in this area and I highly recommend them.

I go to Annapolis OB/GYN. They have offices in Annapolis (by the Anne Arundel Medical Center) and Odenton. I love them!!! They delivered my little girl and I have nothing but good things to say.

I don't live in the Annapolis area so I can't give you any recommendations as far as your doctor's go. My first pregnancy I mostly saw a CNP (she was a nurse midwife). I really enjoyed seeing her above the doctor. She seemed to have a little more information for me, was more empathetic, and would take the time to answer my questions. I always felt rushed when I saw the actual doctor, like he was only interested in hearing the baby's heartbeat and my blood pressure. In fact when I asked the doctor questions about pediatricians, baby care, and certain concerns about how I was feeling he would refer me to the CNP. Being part of a large practice, if a problem arises that the CNP can not handle you have doctors right there, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
