Hi! I'm planning on trying to get pregnant in the next few months, but I don't want to wait til I am to find a doctor. I currently only see a gyn, no OB (although I wish she did both). Anyways, I'm looking for recomendations for really good/great doctors in my area - I live near St. Joseph's Hospital, GBMC, and Sinai.
I thought I would come here first to see if any of you could help, before I actually go talk to doctors (hopefully narrow down the choices/visits). I'm very interested in a doctor who have the following (also applies any of their partner(s) that may end up delivering the baby):

- ** VERY GOOD bedside manner, very nice and patient (I have a bit of an anxiety issue, esp. with doctors)
- low c-section rates
- low induction rates
- low episiotomy rates (as in they wait to see if you need one before just doing it)

Also interested in:
- respects and follows your birthplan whenever possible (does what is right for the patient, not what is convienent for them)
- a doctor/hospital that doesn't automatically hook you up to things preventing you from moving around/changing positions, etc.

Also, though not essential, just wondering if any of the hospitals i mentioned provide tubs for labor relief or birthing balls or stools/chairs? And if anyone knows of a doctor that meets the other things i listed and is also familiar with hypnobirthing (also not essential).

I know I may sound very specific/particular, but I've really thought about this for awhile and am ready to jump in, but it's very important that I find the right doctor to make this experience the best it can possibly be. I'm sure many of you understand :)
Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

My OBGYN Dr. Hovik Taymoorian is the best! When I first came to him I was so nervous. My first OBGYN, whoms name I won't mention didn't communicate with me and used to be angry when I called her with questions and reassurance. When I found Dr. Taymoorian I was suprised to see that he gave his personal phone number for me to call him and told me that no matter what the question was or the time that he was available. Also unlike other OBGYN he is the only doctor that you see. He is very involved with the clients before and after the birth. I was a high risk patient because I had a DVT, gestational diabetes and had miscarried previously. He was very patient with me with question and my feelings. While seeing him I went to the Fetal Assessment Center at Harbor Hospital and they helped with my DVT and my Stress Test. Every step of the way he was there getting notes and communicating with me what to expect and what was going on. During my delivery at Harbor Hospital he was there the entire time. He didn't walk away and tell the nurse to tell him when I was close instead he stayed in the room and helped me push and talked me through it. At Harbor Hospital they did look and respect my birth plan, the nurses were great. As far as different birthing methods, I personally did not ask him about it but am aware that Harbor and Howard County do offer classes and will follow what you want to do. He also works out of Howard County hospital as well. He was also really good at trying to do natural birth and no c-sections. He would only do it if its medically necessary not just because people want to have it. Please put him as one of the doctors that you contact. He has a great staff and you will not regret contacting him. His office number is ###-###-####. If you have any other questions about him, don't hesitate to contact me. I hope you find the OBGYN that you are looking for. Good luck!

I'm looking for the same things for when we decide to have another baby. I was looking around and came across this: http://www.sjmcmd.org/Maternal.aspx?id=6214

I haven't called but generally midwives are more flexible and willing to cater to your needs/desires.

We absolutely love Capital Women's Care (CWC) practice(formerly Charm City OB/GYN) http://www.marylandobgyn.com/provider.asp?pid=865. Dr Zern & others in the practice have been ID-ed as "Top Docs" https://www.sjmcmd.org/NewsEvents.aspx?id=5974 There are other articles out there. They have St Joe's privileges & are located on the campus in the O'Dea bldg. I've had 3 births with their Drs and never felt pressure to be induced, C-sec'd, and never had an episiotomy. Excellent bedside manner and personal attention. I HIGNLY recommend the practice.

How far are you willing to drive? I gave birth to my babies at Special Beginnings Birth and Women's Center in Arnold, MD (near Annapolis). The midwives there are incredible!! If you aren't comfortable with delivering in a birthing center, the midwives also attend births at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The midwives would meet all of your requirements!
