Hi all! I am having my Mirena IUD removed next week, but I need to have something else done. I am not interested in taking the "pill". I am 37, have three kiddos, so I would like something semi permanent or permanent. If you don't mind sharing, I would like to know what option you chose and how it is working out for you. My doctor's office acts like I should know what I want to do for birth control, so I would like to be informed;-)

There is currently a less invasive option of a tubal. They place a wire (not sure what it is) into your fallopian tubes which causes you to form scar tissue, thus keeping the egg to get through. I don't really know much about it, but it was an option that a friend's doctor put out there for her. It is all done in the office, so the price is minimal. Anyway, it sounds like something like that might work in your situation.
Vasectomies work very well. The recovery time is not that much and your husband has as much responsibility in this as you do.

I'm planning to have the essure procedure. I have a friend who's an ob/gyn and he raves about it.
My only problem is that Cigna won't cover it as an office procedure, they require it to be outpatient which will cost me more. So check with your insurance before you get it done!
There is a procedure called "ablasion," this is where they chemically freeze the inner lining of your uterus. The is not much down time or pain; you are back to work the next day. You might have some abdominal swelling but give it a couple of days and that goes away too. This eliminates all periods, you still have all of your hormones, and you can't get pregnant. They do recommend that while the procedure is being done to get your tubes tied for the just in case of having an ectopic pregnancy. See if your OB-Gyn offers this and if your insurance will cover it! It is a great deal if you are sure you are done having kids.

If you are married or in a monogomous relationship, put it on your husband/lover. The vasectomy is such an easy procedure these days and we've already done our hard work!! I am not happy with my mirena either and my husband and I are talking about the same thing right now... I know a coupe of men who have done it and said it was nothing.
Well, I'm wondering why you don't like the mirena, mostly because I've had it for 2 years now. I really like it, however, I "spot" randomly, especially after intercourse. It's frustrating, but overall that's all I have to complain about with that. Before babies, I LOVED the nuvaring that you keep in for 3 weeks and take out for a week for your period. It was hassle free and quite comfortable too. Look into it. I really liked it.
I had a tubal ligation during the c-section birth of my second child and I have been very happy ever since. Good luck with whatever you decide. :-)
I to had to have my Mirena removed after dealing with horrible side effects for way to long. Within two hours after I had it removed I felt so much better. I have not used any other kind of birth control besides the pill ( I am 24) ever since. From what I understand there is a 10 yr chip they can insert just like Mirena but it does not release hormones into your body. I know of 3 people who have this and they have not had any issues with it. I am not sure what it is called but it could be an option for you. Hope this helps!!!!!
