Seeking (Pediatric) Nutritionist for Help with Behavioral Issues
Help. Please. Our just 6 year old son needs help and i don't know where to start. I have heard that many problems begin with nutrition so that is where i am going to start and why i need to find a really good pediatric nutritionist or one that sees young patients. Our son has behavioral issues like controlling his anger, impulsivity, freshness, talking back, acting out, not listening - i know this probably sounds pretty normal for a 6 year old but i know something is not right - call it mothers intuition if you will. He is just never happy and is always looking to start up a debate just to cause a problem and no matter what you give to him he always wants something just a little more or different - just to upset me or let me know he isn't happy. I truly think he has oppositional defiant disorder but i want to start with a nutritionist before i went the psych route. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

K.,
We just went spent the summer under the counsel of a chiropractor who addresses nutrition. He made some pretty dramatic suggestions, which we followed, for my 11 year old who has many of the same issues you are facing with your son. I have to say we noticed a big improvement. After changing her diet, I can tell she feel so much better, is much more patient, flexible and happier. We are very pleased with the results. His name is Dr. Matt Chalmers. He's in Frisco. www.chalmerswellness.com
You also might want to check out a book called Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders. There is some great information about dietary changes. ( I don't think they are limited to just the 4-A disorders.
Good luck. It is a long road, but be persistant.
God Luck

Check out Dr. Deborah Bain
4851 Legacy Drive, Ste #601
Frisco, Texas 75034
www.healthykidspediatrics.com
She has a son that had similiar issues and she modified his diet and had success. She said that the school teachers said he was a "problem child" before she changed his diet and now they consider him "one of the best students"
She takes a more natural approach instead of dumping meds into a kids body - she explores diet, metal retention, etc., and has over 100 autistic kids in her practice.
She's our pediatrician because she's willing to work with us on when our son receive vacinations. She belives in them but feels that a child shouldn't receive them when they have health issues. (in fact, she's researching if there's a link between poor health/vaccines and autism.)
Oh, she is willing to see you for free so you can check our out.

Dr. Bain is a normal pedi that does some natural alternatives in her practice. She recommended allergy/food intolerance testing and the results are guaranteed by the lab (Immuno Laboratories) or you get your money back. We did this testing for ear infections and boy did it work. I also saw some skill progressions in my two year old that was surprising. My friend has the similar situation you are going through and just had her child tested. Poor guy is reactive to most of what she is feeding him, so they are doing the elimination diet and seeing what happens. So far so good. I would recommend starting with the testing....

Hey K.,
I am glad you want to try nutrition before meds that will cause other issues. I work with a Nutritional Supplement Company that has helped kids and adults with all issues. Kids with ADD/ADHD, Autism even get great result. The product is very safe and effective. I have a Naturepathic Doctor who is in my group that I can have you talk to as well. Let me know if you are interested and need more information.
