My husband and I will be moving from Yongsan Garrison, South Korea, to Heidelberg, Germany in August. I can see photos and floor plans for housing at Heidelberg on the Army OneStop Housing website. There aren't many closets, and no storage rooms/closets that I can see. Can anyone tell me if there is storage space somewhere else in or around the buildings? Thanks!
Thanks again to the ladies who responded to my question about storage in Heidelberg. Not long after that, I found out that for a COT (Consecutive Overseas Tour), we could leave our household goods in storage until our next CONUS assignment. We'll just have the one-fourth of our household goods we had in Korea, which won't be a problem.
I dont live in Heidleberg but i do know that the housing here in germany as far as military have basements with individual storages. i know here on Sullivan Barracks the officers live in a different housing. There are individual storage rooms in the basement. There may also be extra open storage in the basement and attic of your building. The individual storage looks about as big as a very small bedroom or a one car garage. There are closets in the storage room as well. It all kind of depends on what type of unit you get in terms of floorplans. Some have been renovated. Housing should give you a choice of two or three units and you can look at them before you choose. Before moving here I had a three story home in Belgium with a huge garage and plenty of outdoor space and storage. Yes, we were downsized considerably, but we have managed to live comfortably. Try to get a unit with an annex. That will give you a little more space. Also try to get a balcony. It makes you feel like you have a little more breathing room. At least it's just you and your husband. There are four of us. :-)

We also have some storage space in the basement, you get either one bigger storage room or two small ones.
The floor plans they use I have not seen the aparments yet. Our are different. Is your husband an Officer or Enlisted?What rank? That also plays a part in what type of housing you get.You have the choices here of living on PHV or MTV to different posts. If you need more info write me and I will gladly help you.

I am not sure about heidelberg but I live in schweinfurt and the storage space is very minimal. we have closet units that are like cabinets built into the walls and that is about it inside the house. Here is schweinfurt we have apartments and not houses I assume it is the same in Heidelberg. We also have a decent sized storage room in the basement. every apartment has their own and it locks perhaps there is storage like that in heidelberg. Good luck on your PCS

I live in Heidelberg. The apartments and houses (I'm not sure which will apply to you, it depends on rank) on post have built-in closets and that has been enough for us. We also have out own storage room in the basement that we can lock in addition to a common storage room that the building coordinator holds the key to. The housing here is not the best, but you can make the apartments look very nice with your furnishings, paintings, curtains, etc. The walls here are a pain because they are concrete so you have to have anchors and it's best to pre-drill any holes you might need. Off post housing usually does not have built-in closets, some land-lords provice armoire's, but not all of them do and if you live off-post you might have to purchase your own to store your clothing and other things you want out of sight.
They have been renovating everywhere and I know most of the One Stop housing websites aren't up to date. Every building's basements has secure storage. Approximately 8 x 8 ft and there can be some common storage rooms as well. You may find storage in attic spaces depending on the condition of the attics. If you go to Yahoo Groups and look for Military Wives in Germany there are ladies in there that can give you a better idea of what is going on. I'm in that group and it is very helpful.
Hi. I live on Patrick Henry Village in Heidelberg, and our apartment actually has quite a bit of storage space and closets. It's one of the more newly renovated apartment buildings on post, so I think we were luckier than some of our other friends here. The apartments on Mark Twain Village (a different post here) seem to be bigger but with less closets. We also have a small storage room in our basement and some buildings let people store things in the attic (we don't). I guess it just depends on which post you choose to live on!

My name is K.. My husband, my son (9months) and i will be moving to Kaiserslautern, Germany from Japan this July! As far as housing off base goes in Germany, you're right, there are no closets in the bedrooms. You will need to buy wardrobes instead. If a home has a basement, most likely there will be storage rooms there, so make sure you ask to home owner if the basement is for storage. (it's seems very common in the homes we've looked into.)
