Seeking Ideas for a 60Th Anniversary Party
My grandparents will soon celebrate their 6oth wedding anniversary. Do you have any creative ideas? We're looking for inexpensive themes and/or gifts that show we care. For their 50th we did a scrapbook of memories from all their friends and relatives, so we aren't interested in doing that again. We want an event that the adults and the great-grandchildren will all enjoy. Thanks for you help!

What about incorporating some ideas from that era into the party?

Hi J.,
We did a night at the Oscars for my grandparents anniversary. Couples had to dress up like their favorite movie couple from their hay day and singles had to pick a single actor, etc. The younger kids had a ball picking out super hero characters
The decorations were very simple: black and gold balloons with long white ribbons. And I took some transparencies and copied some enlarged film strip images I found on line onto then adding the date and event and a family member took pictures and we used film strips as the matting for the photos.
We got my grandparents a limo and rented some event lights and when they arrived every one was out front flashing cameras and throwing confetti as they walked up the red carpet. One of my cousins was tasked with getting the Oscar. He found it a trophy shop and we had it engraved with the date of their marriage and a sweet little poem.
When then took old & new photos and such turned them into a DVD that played throughout the evening.
The hall we got at a discount, my granpa was a veteran, so the local VFW gave us a great deal. We all pitched in and purchased & cooked the dinner; we rented the dinnerware; the great grandkids were the waiters & waitresses.
All in all the party cost us grandkids about $2200.
My grandparents were so happy they actually thought we spent $10k+. Everyone had such a good time; we even made DVD's of the party to give them. My grandfather has since past but my grandma to this day still talks about that party. I too get a tear in my eye when I think of my grandpa struttin his stuff on the dance floor that night.
Hope this helps!!

We just did HUGE family pictures, that were so much fun. We did just the grandparents, them with their kids, them with their kids and grand-kids, etc. It was tons of fun to get together (not like we don't do it weekly anyways) and see the family my grandparents created!

My grandparents were more adventurous than most, so they organized a dinner cruise around the bay for their 50th anniversary. The group was big enough that we chartered the whole boat for ourselves (but with a smaller group you could rent a room on the boat, or a big table), and my grandparents made it known that they didn't want any gifts - so most people gave a little toward the "party fund" instead. It was so much fun that people are still talking about it years later. The adults had a blast, and all of the grandchildren had a great time too!

J.,
What about asking each member of the family to write their favorite story, memory etc. of them together. Then compile it into a nice book for them to enjoy.
