Hi Moms,

I am looking for a new church home. I was raised in the Church of Christ but really just want to find a church that is loving, won't judge me, and has some diversity. I would also like a church that is kid friendly and has weekly communion. I currently live near Downtown and would like a place near home but am willing to drive somewhere great.

Thank you in advance.

What can I do next?

Hi, A.!

Good for you for looking for a good church to call home! I'll tell you about mine and you can decide if you'd like to check us out!

I am a member of Kansas City Baptist Temple, located just south of the stadiums. You said you are looking for diversity, and we are an extremely diverse church. We don't really have a strong majority. We have a mix of white, black, and hispianic people, as well as members from over 30 other countries of origin. We have people who wear shorts and tank tops with flip flops, people who wear a three-piece suit each week, as well as everything in between. We have people covered in tattoos and piercings as well as people who have never seen the inside of a tattoo parlor. Our church slogan is "A place for all peoples" because of our diversity. Everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We are a pretty large church so nobody really sticks out like a sore thumb for being new.

As for being non-judgemental, I don't feel we are judgemental. Our church teaches the Bible (King James Version is the preferred text of our church) and calls sin what it is. But all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, so why would we have the right to *judge* others. I guess the way I'd put it is that if you are looking for a place to *dismiss* your sins as being okay for you to continue in, we aren't that place. But if you are looking for a place who accepts sinners while still preaching against sin, then check us out.

Our church is also kid friendly. There are a lot of kids there. We are actually about to start construction on a new building addition in the Spring which is almost completely going to be taken up by the Children's Ministry. It's an exciting time for us as we anticipate the building and all it will have to offer to the serve the Children.

Our church does not have weekly communion, which I know you are looking for. We take the Lord's Supper every time there are 5 Sundays in a month on that 5th Sunday. We'll be doing it on November 30 if you think you'd like to join us that day. I think we also take the Lord's Supper a few other times during the year corresponding to certain holidays, but I'd have to get the facts for you on that to be sure.

We have two main services. The early service, which I believe starts at 9:45, offers a more traditional praise/singing session before the message, although it's still pretty contemporary. The second service starts at 11:15. The praise/singing during that one is VERY contemporary. It seems to be run by teenagers/college age kids and they do a great job! The music is kind of loud and includes a lot of contemporary Christian music. During each service, our head pastor, Jeff Adams, delivers a message straight out of the Bible and explains how it applies to people in our day and age. He's a very intelligent man and he knows his stuff. I learn a lot from him. If you want to check out the church online, you can visit www.kcbt.org and hear messages from the pastors or just check out the site.

To find the church, you just take I-70 to Blue Ridge Cutoff and go South. You will cross Raytown Rd. and I think there is one other light you go through (not sure of the name of that one) and then the church will be on your right. If you can't find a place to park in the main lot, you can park up the hill near the chuch sports complex and take a tram down to the building.

Hope this helps! If you or any other moms reading this response want more information so you can check out the church, please don't hesitate to send me a message. I'd be more than happy to meet anyone who wants to come to the church so you don't have to feel alone. It's been a true blessing in the lives of me and my family. And best of all, we get to have a community of people who may look, talk, and act differently than we do, but we are all there for the love of Christ and to offer our worship and praise to God, and THAT is AWESOME!

I heard a lot of good things about the KCBT. I'd give it a try. Know one says, just because you try a church that you have to join it. When we moved up here from Louisiana we checked out a lot of churches and finally settled on Pleasant Valley in Liberty, because it fit us. Just keep looking. Try a church several times before saying yes or no. Good luck and God Bless.

I know of a couple churches that you would feel love,
understanding and no judgements. However, I do not believe that they will have communion every week. They will also be
very kid friendly. One is Harmony Vineyard, you will find this church in Gladstone, MO at North Oak Trafficway and I-29
Interstate. Then there is the one that my good friend who is a widow. That one is in Grandview. However, you will have to contact her for the name and details of this church. We have visited it several times and truly enjoyed it. But I cannot remember the name or the location of the church. Her name is Sarah and her number is ###-###-####.
My best to you and may you find the joy of the Lord as you continue on this journey.
God bless you!!!

We attend New Beginnings Church (Nazarene) in Lee's Summit, behind McDonald's on Chipman road. I was raised Methodist, but attended a service there when my son's best friend was baptized. I realized quickly that this would be a church my daughter would like to attend. The pastor at the time was a white man with kids in their 20's and two adopted mixed or black children. This greatly influenced me to encourage my daughter (unmarried with mixed race children) to attend. Also the music is like a rock concert, very upbeat. The children have Sunday school, then during church service they attend their own service in a separate area of the church. The childrens pastors are very good friends of mine and you can't find better less judgmental people anywhere!
The new pastor is young in his 20's and has been there just a very few months, so the Worship team consists of three very young pastors and a somewhat older childrens pastor. We don't have weekly communion, so if that's important I'm not real sure how often they have it. I do know that one of my daughters brought a young family to the service and they knew within the first few notes of the first song that they wanted to attend there. When my other daughter married last year, they included her husbands kids in the ceremony, it was really nice. Visit once and you might be hooked!

Well you have already received to praises for KCBT, which is where I go. Since you are in downtown area I was going to tell you about a daughter church there, Midtown Baptist Temple in Westport area. I don't know how often they have communion but I doubt it is every Sunday. You can check out the website for more info. http://www.mbtkc.org/
Of course I love my church KCBT and if you decide to come and want me to meet you in the lobby I am happy to. I just thought you might like an option in downtown.

Hi,
As someone else said, you just have to try something but that doesn't mean you have to become a member. We felt when we moved here over a year ago that our church choice was more important to us and our family than how long my husband had to drive to work or where we lived. So after my husband visited this church on a trip for an interview he said he felt like this was the ONE. So after I visited I decided that too and we purposely looked for a house close to the church.

We go to The Life Church which is up on a hill on viewhigh drive close to 470 highway. WE LOVE IT. There are members yes but we have tons of people that come all the time that aren't members and haven't been but are loved just the same. It's very upbeat so if you're used to quiet calm services it will be very different. Our church has lot's of different ethnic backgrounds too which is great as that is how heaven will be too hahahha.

Email me back if you would like the address or more info. If you decide to visit, if you want let me know when you are coming, I could wait in the narthex for you so you don't feel so alone for the first time and I can show you around or help you find sunday school classes for you or your kids. We are traveling for the holidays this sunday and next but after that we'll be there. Our Christmas service which is very good is on December 14 if you're interested.
Good luck searching.
