Seeking Crockpot/slow Cooker Recipes

Ok, so I have this crockpot and have made chili in it and use it to keep food warm for a party but I am interested in finding more ways to use it. We are not big "stew" eaters but maybe there are other good recipes out there. I like to cook but I hate seeing the crockpot just sitting there. What are your favorite slow cooker recipes? Please share or send a link to a website.

This recipe is one of my favorites! It is Chicken with Black Beans and Cream Cheese. I use light cream cheese and I also use a can of rotel as some reviewers recommended. It is great over rice, and the leftovers are delicious wrapped in a tortilla!

My favorite..as well as the kids is chicken tacos. I put 4-5 frozen chicken breasts in the clow cooker, with a can of chicken broth and a little bit of lemon juice, before I leave home in the morning and when I get home they are ready to be shredded. I take the chicken out of the juice, shredd it and put it back in the pot. To the chicken I add a cup of chunky salsa (we like medium) and about 3/4 can of corn. I then add a little bit of the chicken broth that i took out just to give it some moisture. Its so yummy. We put it on a soft shell taco with sour cream and some cheese.

I love my crock pots as I have 5 of various sizes & shapes! Here are some:

Easy Crock-Pot Cake

1 21 oz can any pie filling
1 package any kind cake mix
1 stick margarine

Put pie filling in bottom of crock-pot. Combine dry cake mix & butter. Mixture will be crumble. Sprinkle over filling. Cover & cook on low for 2-3 hours.

Creamy Italian Chicken

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 envelope Italian salad dressing mix
¼ c. water
1 8 oz. package cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 4oz. can mushrooms

Place chicken in crock-pot. Combine salad dressing mix & water, pour over chicken. Cover & cook on low for 3 hours. In small mixing bowl, beat cream cheese & soup together. Stir in mushrooms. Pour over chicken. Cook 1 hour longer. Serve over rice or noodles.

Slow Cooker Lasagna

1 lb. hamburger
1 large onion, chopped (I never use that much)
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 20 oz can tomato sauce
1 c. water
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 t. salt
1 t. oregano
1 8z pkg no cook lasagna noodles
16 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
12 oz cottage cheese
½ c. grated Parmesan cheese

Brown hamburger & add onion & garlic. Drain. Add tomato sauce, water & tomato paste, salt & oregano. Mix well. Here is where I double bag in a Ziploc bag & freeze for future use. Spread a fourth of the meat sauce in an ungreased 5 qt slow cooker. Arrange a third of the noodles over sauce (may break noodles). Combine the cheese, spoon a third of the mixture over noodles. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining meat sauce. Cover & cook on low for 4-5 hours or until noodles are tender.

Creamy Hash Browns in the Crock-Pot

2 lb pkg frozen hash browns
8 oz cubed American cheese
16 oz sour cream
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can cream of chicken
1 pound cooked bacon
¼ c. chopped onion
¼ c. margarine
¼ t. pepper
Place potatoes in ungreased 5 qt. crock-pot. In a bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. Pour over potatoes and mix well. Cover & cook on low for 4-5 hours.

My family really likes what we call beef tips over noodles.
Get a pound of stew meat put it in the crokpot with onions and green pepper and enough water to cover the bottom of the meat. let it cook for a few hours and then add a family size can of cream of mushroom soup. when done serve over noodles. I cook the noodles seprate but you could add them to the crock pot if you wanted.

Allrecipies.com is an excellent source for great recipies and they even have a section just for the crockpot! A friend of mine who used to work as a gourmet cook recommended the site to me and I've used it ever since. They not only give the recipe, but site users respond with like or didn't like and things that they changed in the recipe (reading these helps tremendously!). I've not yet been disappointed in anything I've gotten from this site and most all of the recipies are easy to use and don't usually require odd or hard to find ingredients.

We aren't soup eaters at all but I do use my crock pot quit a bit!

Betty Crocker has an excellent Chili recipie (which requires cocoa!) that is great cooked in the crockpot all day. I also like to toss in two cans hormel chili and a can of fiesta nacho cheese soup (cambells) and we eat it by dipping tostitos in it as a quick easy supper. Sometimes I will switch out the soup and add cream cheese instead. Also I like to toss a pork roast into the crockpot from time to time and use the leftovers to make BBQ pork in the crockpot. It always turns out like pulled pork! :)

I love to use my crockpots (I have 3!). I have some favorites, and my husband has his favorites... my best suggestion... go to your local library and look through their cookbook section (if they are a Dewey library it'll be around the 641 area). There are TONS of cookbooks out there that are specifically for crockpot meals. I personally own 4, and check out some from my local library regularly.... usually copying down my favorites out of the library books - so I don't have to check it out each time I want to make it.

I have used a ton of the recipes off this mothering.com discussion forum. I love the crockpot lasagna and the curry recipe that allows for a ton of variation depending what you have on hand. I also use the Meat and Veggie Spaghetti sauce recipe a ton and use it when I make freezer meals.

One recipe that every one like is a pulled beff or pork. All you need is a pork or beef roast, dry ranch dressing mix, BBQ sauce, and a jar of banana peppers. In the crock pot put the meat, dry ranch dressing ( don't make the dressing just the powder) and peppers with the juice. Leave until the meat is falling apart. Time depends on how many lbs the roast is. I normaly use 3-4 lbs and I start in the AM it is ready for dinner but the longer it is in the more tender it is. Once the meat is done drain off juices and pull the meat apart and add the BBQ sauce. I get raves over this and every one is surprised on what is in it.

Shredded beef sandwiches - chunk up a beef roast (don't have to be real small pieces, just makes easier to shred), pour either a package of AuJus mix or Italian dressing (depending on your tastes)over meat and let cook all day. Shred beef before serving on rolls.

2 lbs. ground sausage, browned
3 large potatoes, sliced (can substitute frozen hashbrowns)
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 can milk (can use less if you want it thicker)
green onions, chopped
pepper and garlic powder to taste
cook on low for 6 hours
I usually mix in corn and shredded cheddar cheese over stovetop to leftovers for a slightly new dish.

Roasts with potatoes and carrots are great cooked in it. Try putting pork chops in it smothered in BBQ sauce. They come out super tender and yummy. The internet is a great way to find recipes. You can try allrecipes.com. You can just search for crock pot recipes and tons will come up. I make a lot like soups and stews, which I love, but know you don't. Try chili with chicken, or putting different veggies in it.

I love the website myrecipes.com. Go into the "quick and easy" tab and there are a ton of slow cooker recipes. You can even use the recipe finder function to search under certain parameters (for exmaple, if you want a slowe cooker recipe that's low fat and uses chicken). Users rate the recipes, so you can usually get a good idea which ones are the winners. I typically have good luck with all of the recipes that come from Cooking Light.

wow! You've got some great ideas already... I'm actually gonna use some of these =o)

One of our family favs, which even my very picky 6yo likes is Balsamic Chicken w/pears

2-3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 bottle balsamic vinaigrette (I use Maple Farms brand- fat free & low cal, but very yummy!!)
2 bosc pears
cornstarch for thickening sauce

Dump the chicken & vinaigrette in the crock pot & cook on low 6-8 hours.
Cut the pears into bite-size pieces, and cook over med heat in a sprayed pan until crisp-tender.
I like thick sauces, so I take the chicken out of the crock & turn the crock up to high heat. Then pull out about 1/4 c of the sauce and add about 1 tblsp cornstarch & mix thoroughly. Dump this back in the crock & stir well. In a couple of minutes the sauce begins to thicken, add in the pears & serve over the chicken.

We serve it with brown & wild rice and maybe a salad.

So good & so easy on crazy nights after work. If you use crock liners, clean-up is a breeze too!

We are big crockpot fans- we like the seasoning mixes because there are quite a few to pick from- Beef Stroganoff is a huge hit in our house. Also, there is chicken noodle soup. A few others we like is a BBQ Pulled Pork- we cook a pork butt in beef broth, pull the pork and pour BBQ sauce over it. Kids like that one- and the flavor is usually determined by the sauce.

There is a great one- chicken breasts with cream of mushroom and milk poured over it, a frozen veg, and velveeta cheese cubed. We cook on low (I think it is four hours), and serve over rice or noodles.

Check out allrecipes.com- it is a good site for recipes.

There are 2 great websites that I love to use! One is www.crockpot365.blogspot.com - the woman dedicated one whole year to making something for that day in the crockpot. The other website is www.savingdinner.com - there are some free recipes on there, but the majority of them are for purchase at a very reasonable rate! The basis of all of the recipes on the SD site are to be freezer meals - prep/ maybe cook a bit before hand, freeze it (like Let's Dish), and then cook to direction. Enjoy!

This Chicken Chili is addictive! We usually make 2 batches at once. There's also a bite/kick but you can tone it down with mild or less jalapenos and chilies. Throw it all in the crockpot on low for about 4 hours. SO yummy. Here's the recipe for 1 batch:

3 cooked chicken breasts, cut up
1 can chicken broth
2 - 15 oz. can Great Northern beans, drained (I use up to four cans for a more hearty chili)
1 - 8 oz. shredded pepper jack cheese
1 - 16 oz. sour cream
sm. can diced chilies
sm. can jalapenos

Serve with my favorite multi grain tostitos.

We use the crockpot at last 3 times a week. This one is my favorite in the winter. Too spicy for your little one but warms up well for leftovers.
