Seeking Any Mom's That Have a Child with Aspergers Syndrome

My 3 yr old daughter will be tested in Cincy for Asperger's syndrome at the end of this month. I have done tons of research and it is sooo overwhelming!! Is your child in preschool anywhere? is he getting special help or any kind of therapy?
I was wondering on a personal note whether or not your child is umm,, well, socially awkward. My lil one does not play with or even really speak to the kids in her school. She says her friends at school are her teachers! IF we goto a playground she goes out of her way to avoid other kids. and she's not shy!!! She did say one day that she really, really liked BOYS though! oh well, i was pretty boy-crazy in preschool myself! :)

Hi E.! I have a 3 year old son that has Autism but one of my dearest friends has a 3 year old son with Aspergers. We have figured out that they are wuite alike in more ways than they are not!

You must be my doppelganger :-) Same name, same state, same kid's diagnosis. My 7-year-old has AS, or AS tendencies with ADD, depending on whether you talk to the school psychologist or our private psychiatrist. What issues are you having with your child?

Yes we were told that is what one of our triplets has.
we have been able to handle everything but the temper, he is a good boy most of the time it is just when he gets mad, i cant handle, and at 4 years old he is stronger then i am. lol, that makes me sound alittle whimpish. dont it...

Yours is an old posting but I would be glad to answer Q's if you still have some.

My little brother (he's 26 years old now) has Aspergers, it's HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISM, which means he can function more in certain areas than children with full-blown autism (Rain Man). Our school system wanted to put him in open-door school, but my mom wouldn't let them. Seth went into the regular public school, was in LD classes for most of the time, but was main-streamed for the classes he did well in, such as history and science. He now holds a job, he's had stable relationships with girls, he has close friends, and functions well in society. One thing he has trouble with is managing money, that is why my mom is still in charge of all his finances: bill paying, depositing checks, etc. If not he would have his whole account spent before the 1st week of the month. He does get an SSI check every month, on top of what he gets paid at his job. If you have a local University, that is a good place to start, they usually have an autism services. Look up autism speaks, it's an organization dedicated to the education of individuals with autism. There are a lot more things out now than there were when my brother was littl. Your son's pediatrician should have some information from local organizations if there are any. I'm not going to lie, it will be hard, you will get frustrated, and you'll probably cry, but it's okay. Make sure you have a support system, and don't let him fall through the cracks in the educational system, constently check up on the school and how he's doing, that's what mom had to do.
