OK... So I just found out I'm pregnant... WITH TWINS. While I'm completely shocked, excited and thrilled, I'm already worrying about going back to work. After my first (only) son was born, I had a REALLY hard time leaving (and still do even now that he's in pre-school). I expect that my office will allow me to either change to a part-time schedule or work from home, but I'm wondering if there are any working moms out there who can give me any advice???? Thanks!

What can I do next?

hi and congrats
i am a mom of twins. they're 4 years old. i guess my best advice is wait a little, i'd say until december then go offer your employer to telecommute and maybe even get a paycut while you do this from home. don't give an end date to telecommuting. wait and see what he/she says. if he/she starts dwelling on the idea, remind him/her that he won't have to pay for office space, computer/internet, telephone etc.you also benefit...stay home with kids, and save on gas and nerves :)
i have worked from home since 2003 but the type of job i do allows me to work full-time from home (no supervision), so you need to know whether you could do your job at home.
i'd say if you're allowed this, then do it until twins are 18 months then choose a place for them.
as for nanny thing, i can't offer any advice. i stayed home with girls (still do) and just rearranged my work hours (during naptime, quiet time), and then after DH came home he'd needed to take over for the rest of the night (after turning 1), which gave me from 8 pm to 1-2 am. that way i could put in all the hours needed. also, if i stayed behind with work, i made up during weekends.
good luck

Congreats!! I hope all goes well for you. I still have a hard time leaving my son and he's four, so I know what you mean. If you have the option, working part time is wonderful. You still spend alot of time with your kids, but get to have adult time too. Sometimes it's nice to get a break. Working from home is REALLY hard with 3 kids! You really need someone else to watch them while you are working, or you are interupted so many times it's hard to get anything done.
Good Luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I don't have any advice for your work situation but I do have 1 year old twins and can offer any advice you need in that area!!! I really just wanted to say congratulations. You will enjoy them so much, the relationship they share is so beautiful. This morning when I took my son out of his crib he went right over to his sister to give her a kiss!! Gotta love it ;) Good luck and if you have any questions or need info on what to get for twins feel free to write!

Dear C.,

I think this decision is completely up to you and how you feel after having the babies. What works for one does not always work for the other. I know for me having three kids and trying to hold a full-time job and run a household would put me over the edge. I think if you choose to go back to work don't wait until they are toddlers to put them into daycare full-time. As a childcare center director and owner I can tell you separation at that age is the worst. If daycare down the line is an option I would work part-time put them in the center where your son is part-time this way when you go back full time they will already be familiar with their surroundings. As toddlers it is sometimes really difficult for them to go from being home with mom to full time daycare. If you choose to work from home i would get a mothers helper otherwise how can you get anything done with twins. I think working part-time putting them into a good center you are comfortable with is the best for both of you. It will allow you to still work and allow your babies the time they need to adjust for an eventual full time schedule. But like I said its all going to depend on how you feel after your precious babies arrive. Congratulations and good luck!!!

Hi C.!

I work from home and my 4 and almost 2 year olds are in a home daycare about a mile away. I think that makes it easier for me to drop them off (aside from loving the babysitter). Knowing that I am so close if GOD forbid they need me helps my anxiouty (sp?). It is so hard when they are home because of the work I do.

Good luck!
S.
