We recently moved to the area and are looking for a basketball program for ou 9 year old daughter. She loves basketball but we have been unable to locate programs for us to put her in. She did play at the Y this pass season but she wants more than practice once a week and game on Saturday. One of my friends recently told me about an organization called AAU but I have no knowledge of how that organization works. So I am trying to find out if anyone can suggest any all girl basketball programs for 9 year olds, and/or if any one has any knowledge of how AAU teams and/or organizations work. I have been told that the parks have coed teams, I am not sure if a coed team is where she needs to be. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

What can I do next?

The Lilburn Basketball Association will be registering on September 6th if you are in that area. They practice twice a week with a game on Saturday. Call Helen at ###-###-#### for details. It has been over 20 years since my daughter played but Helen is still involved, president actually, so will be able to give you more contacts like AAU if you need them.

Hi K.,
I know there is a good program for girls that age because my daughter is 9 and she was asking for it. It is in Lenora Park in Snellville, and the other location is in Dacula. I don't remember exactly but I think the website is justskills.com The program includes 2 days practice (Mon & Fri) and it is an all girl team.I can't do it because it is too expensive for me, it costs $ 295, but I hear it is very good.
If you get any other leads and don't mind sharing, I would really appreciate if you can let me know of other programs in Gwinnett.
I hope this helps you.

Tha county's parks and rec. does have a basketball program. At that age (9), it is not co-ed, so your daughter would be playing on an all girls' team. The teams typically practice in the local elementary schools. You can check with your local park, and find out when their program starts and where they play. The county also has a magazine that comes out a few times each year that lists all of the rec league programs - I believe you can see it online at the Gwinnett County web site. Good luck!

My kids don't play basketball so I don't know from personal experience. My neighbor's son played through the Upward program. Their website is www.upward.org. It is a national program through local church's. They have a strong emphasis on teamwork and good sportsmanship while teachin Christian values.

Your best bet is probably through the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. Each cluster in the county has their own association of sports. If you live in Lawrenceville, you'd probably want to play with the Collins Hill Association. Their website is chaasports.com.
Good Luck!
