Rug Burns on Knees from Crawling

Hello Everyone,
My daughter has been crawling for about a month now. Since the weather has heated up a bit she's been in shorts and dresses a lot lately. I noticed last night that her knees are red and so are the tops of her feet. I'm pretty sure it is from crawling, maybe rug burn? Any ideas on how to keep her skin soft and healthy?
Thank you!

So What Happened?

I wanted to get babylegs, but I can't justify spending the extra money since she will be walking soon. Lucky for us it's cooled off so she's back in pants and her knees look better.
Thank you for the great ideas!

Check out Baby Legs. They are very cute, last forever and protect her little knees. You can stretch them out to cover the whole leg when it gets cool, or bunch them up around the knee for summer protection.
They sell them at Goores and on the Target website for about $12 depending on the style. You can also go to www.babylegs.com
Hope this helps.

Be blessed.

We are having the same issues right now with my youngest.
We use babylegs or thin pants on her. As for the softness of the skin, I just make sure to lotion her up morning and night.
Wishing you luck!

Ahh, yes...I remember the red knees and feet. We went and purchased really thin cotton pants - we called them summer pants. A lot of times we just used super thin, cotton pajama pants. And we always made sure socks were on. It seems like a lot of clothes for the summer time, but it really does help their soft skin.

I also make sure I used plenty Aquaphor after bath time. I put it on their damp skin and then put them in their PJ's. In the morning their skin would be so soft!

Good luck!

Hello,
My son Is 18 months old and he barely just started walking. So all this time he has gotten those chapped knees and tops of his feet. I purchased the eucerine lotion and aquaphor lotion. i apply it twice a day morning and night. I also apply it right after his baths. This has helped a lot to keep the chapping under control. Hope this info helps. Have a great day!

cut the feet off of one of your socks, and pull them up to cover her knees. it's not especally attractive but will save her knees in the long run!

Hi I would keep your little one in light pants till she is up and walking. My little one is 14 month old and just started walking before I would always keep her in pants. The Childrens Place has some really cute and light colorful yoga pants. Good Luck.

at some of the specialty baby stores they actually do have "baby knee pads" and for the tops of babys feet try putting on the little baby ankle socks(the ones that don't slip off easil;y!)-i am a mom of "3" very active kids!!!!!!!!hope it helps.

The elastic cut off of old tube socks does the trick too for a lot less money. I've tried some of the store bought baby knee pads, and they were too tight for my baby, didn't cover the whole knee, and slipped down when my baby started crawling around. Instead of using Aquaphor, which has a drying effect due to the alcohol content, try using Aveeno Soothing Natural products. The Intense Relief Overnight Cream or the Eczema Cream work wonders, and they are both fragrance-free.

I just put her in her 6 mo old little cotton pants and they were like capris perfect for the summer. My daughter was tall and thin so this worked well. Her waste still fit in the 6 month old pants but they came just below her knee.

When my kids were little and crawling a lot, whenever I knew they would be playing in the floor and crawling quite a bit I tried to keep them in pants rather than shorts in order to keep them from getting rug burn, and to keep them cleaner (especially if I was at someone elses house and they were crawling on their floors).

If it doesn't bother her I wouldn't worry too much... no permenent damage will be done. But an idea that was related to me was to cut the toes out of a pair of socks, then you can slide them up around her knees while she is crawling.
