Baby Who Loves to Crawl Is Left with Carpet Rash

You may want to have your carpet tested as well. Sometimes, (if you have a resell house or apt) the people who lived there before you may have used harsh chemicals to clean the carpets. Your baby may be getting minor chemical burns as well. It's worth checking out if the rashes are really bad. I learned this when I was checking on purchasing a repo house. The realtor told me new carpet was worthwhile. I was expecting at the time.

We have wood floors throughout the living areas of our house so when my son (now 20 mo.) was crawling his poor knees were covered with bruises. So we got some small boys tube socks and cut off the sock under the elastic tube part. We slid the tube over his knees and it padded them and helped cut back on the bruises. Good Luck!

They actually sell baby knee pads. I saw them at Babies-r-us, but am sure you can get them online too.

Let her crawl, and watch her have fun. It's a natural part of the "ages and stages" that every baby hits. If you're really concerned, call her doctor and ask them, but I wouldn't worry too much unless the skin is broken open. She's young, and will heal fast. It seems like parents today do too much worrying and not enough enjoying the little life they've brought into the world.

I don't mean to sound harsh or uncaring, I just get so tired of seeing the germophobes wipe everything down with antibacterial wipes, then wonder why their child is so sick all the time.

Have you ever heard of baby legs? They are little leg warmers for babies. They will help with the red marks. The go all the way up the babies legs so she will have exellent coverage. They sell them at target and Nordstroms or online babylegs.net. I love them they are so cute. good luck.

onestepahead.com has crawling pads for little legs and knees...you can also try cutting off the arms of a toddler or infant sweater to put over her legs (under a sleeper). We used sleepers until the kids were walking for that reason. One of ours would do a bear crawl once he hit the wooden floor because it hurt his knees and he just adapted =0

i bought my daughter these awesome leg warmers from Baby Legs. they are 12.50 for regular cotton and i think 15.00 for organic....they come in all sorts of designs and they protect the knees for the crawling! if you google baby leg warmers you'll find them. they rock! they are great for layering on spring days as well AND as she gets older she can wear them on her arms in place of a full sweater or long sleeve. i just love them. good luck

I want to also recommend Babylegs leg warmers. At first I wasn't sure if they would be worth the money but I decided to use a baby shower gift card to buy a couple of pairs. I bought white, pink and brown so they would be versitile with matching things. My baby is 6m old and I LOVE the babylegs! She is not crawling yet but I use them under jumpers, dresses, shorts and things like that. This way I get more wear out of the summer items I have bought for her while it's still cold and rainy. I just throw on some babylegs under her shorts and a long sleeve onsie. It looks very cute! They work great for cold mornings or evenings too so you don't have to change the whole outfit when it gets warm in the afternoon. Once she starts crawling they will be great for protecting her little knees. I bought mine at www.babysnazz.com. Right now they have a big selection on sale for $8 each. They're fabulous legwarmers for babies, can also double as arm covers, better than tights for potty training and diaper changes, etc...all the celebrity kids wear them, and my daughters have about ten pairs between the two of them, they will fit for years to come!

My little girl was an early crawler (5 months!) and I also lamented her little red knees, but bruised knees are a part of being a kid :) Those soft little knees will never be the same now that she's mobile. My girl is 2 1/2 now, and her shins are always banged up from climbing and jumping and running and falling down. I kiss her boo-boos when she cries, but if she doesn't cry, I don't react. You could stick your little kid in kneepads just for crawling, but that would be a little overprotective. I wouldn't worry about it! Besides, sore knees are a motivation to get up and walk :) Then her little bum will be a bit bruised from landing on it all the time... but you can always sneak a little extra padding into her pants without folks thinking you're loony :)

buy her some 'baby legs' leg warmers...they will cover her knees etc and she can crawl away. I also cut the foot part off one of my long thick socks and put in on my kids legs for some padding.

have the carpets ever been cleaned? most of those chemicals they use are not good for you and especially for baby. I know you can also get knee pads for babies. Have you tried thicker pants like sweats or jeans? You can also get some iron-on patches from the fabric store. If they don't have cute ones, you can just get some solid color and cut it into a flower or heart shape and iron it onto the knees of her pants. (Just be sure to check where it needs to go when her knee is bent.)

I rubbed bag balm on his knees... a good amount. and the rash didnt come back... i did it about three times a day

I love what one mom said about the socks, I have seen online about the same thing, little pads that they where to keep there knees safe. My kids never really had a lot of trouble with that... my newphe did tho it was so bad that it would bleed at times... they used lots of creams, and sweet pants on him... Best of luck, soon she will be walking..

re-reading what you said, does she have the same rash stuff on her hands? Might be good to look into having the carpets cleaned with something or if they have been maybe she is having trouble with the soap that they/you used? Or just the carpet itself if it's got wool in it... Just a thougt

When my kids were babies, I took my husband's old knee high socks, the ones headed for the trash when he wore holes in them, and cut off the "tube" part, and slipped it over their legs if they crawled around w/out pants, which the girls frequently did when they were in shorts or dresses.

If you find that these are too big for your baby, get women's crew socks from Hanes or Fruit of the Loom, and use the tubes from those. Cheap enough for a 6 or more pk. that you can cut them up and not feel too bad about it.

For extra padding, you can fold up the remainder, and tuck it inside on the kneecap. That way, none of the sock goes to waste and they are nice and cushiony! Voila! Baby knee pads.
