We are going to visit my sil and her husband next week and they are going to one of their marine friends retirement party, her husband is a marine, and we will probably be going with them and going to dinner after since it is her husband's birthday, she told us to bring dressy/casual which can mean so much they live in Arizona she said she will be wearing nice jeans and a nice top. I will be going shopping Wednesday to finish getting everything and I figured I'd pick up a top to wear what would you mom's get? I have a couple pretty nice tees, they are not cotton. They are more of a blend v neck shirt that I got from target and I was thinking of packing a couple of those and seeing what she wore. But I'm not sure if we will even be going or not. We will decide that day. I figure I'd pack a casual button up for my husband that he can wear with his cargo khaki shorts. But for myself I'm not sure as I don't really own dressy/casual shirts

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The only reason it was military mom's was because it is for a marine that is retiring.

Sorry....this isn't about Military moms or Military wives....you need to know what to wear to a party. A retirement party is just like any other retirement party. The difference? There will be people there in military uniform.

Personally? I would go shopping when I got there. Weather is different in Arizona than Ohio.

She already told you what she was wearing...nice jeans and a nice top. Don't make it complicated. Use the KISS Method - Keep It Simple Silly.

Why not wait until you get to Arizona and use that as an excuse for some girl time shopping with your sil. It would be some time away for both of you and she could say "That's perfect" or "That's too casual/dressed up".

Your title doesn't match your question at all.

Try a pair of those blue jeans with a lot of bling on the butt. You can wear either a nice tank top with a blingy infinity scarf, or a sleeveless A-line top tucked just under the bra line. Throw on a nice pair of sexy sandals and a great pedicure and you will look dressy, casual and awesome!

I'm not a military mom, but I will weigh in. When I hear "nice jeans and a nice top" I think dark wash designer jeans and a semi-fancy top from White House Black Market. Are these tops that you are bringing something you would wear to a bar? I guess that's the kind of dressy casual that I would be going for.

I like the suggestion of shopping once you get there.

As far as what to wear to a military retirement, I think it really depends on the people. Is it the official retirement ceremony? Or is it the party the retiree and the wife are throwing to celebrate? If is the first, those are more formal than casual. If it's the second, then whatever your sister says will work.
