Besides Mylicon, does anyone know of a really good remedy that will relieve gas in a 7 week old?

What can I do next?

What worked for me was to cradle my son in my arms sideways and push his belly as hard as I could against my own then sway him back and forth. When I did this he would settle down and usually fall asleep within minutes.

I know that this will sound a bit too obvious;however, it worked for me through many babies. More frequent burping. I would stop feedings at regular intervals....sometimes I would rub the babies' backs for 3 or 4 minutes to get a burp (if it didn't happen, I went back to feeding and tried again). What they thought was colic in one baby disappeared. It made feedings more tedious...especially those middle of the night ones, but the pay-off was happier babies and no meds needed, ever. I should note that when using bottles (buy the good nursers), you may need to burp more often than when nursing as the baby gets more air. good luck !

I found with my daughter infant massage worked great to make her a happier baby. We went to a four week class offered via our local hospital. I still do the tummy part on her now if her tummy is upset. She is now 18 months old.

Also, sometimes babies get upset even if it isn't gas at all. I would recommend checking out the Happiest Baby on the Block. Libraries have it in book and DVD form. I watched the DVD when my daughter was about that age and it was life changing for us. (I thought she had a lot of gas too). Good luck.

Hey J........We used, with 2 of my 3 children a weeky brewed fennel seed tea. You find them with the spices, you also need a small tea strainer, as they are seeds. you boil water, pour it over the seeds in a tea mug or coffee cup, then strain it into like a measuring cup. the longer you leave it steep the stronger it will be. It tastes like licorice. it will be yellow in color to green, depending how long you let it sit, the greener, the stronger. you can dilute it with water. serve it warm, not cold or room temp. hope this helps. good luck!

We used to bycicle ride my sons legs. Varying the postion you hold them in can help too. My one son like to be held on my shoulder when he was gassy and fussy, the other liked sitting up and the other like me to hold him tummy down on my forearm. There is also a natural remedy colic pill you can get at Walmart. Not sure what its like. Good frequent burping throughout the day will also help to prevent air travelling down. Good luck!

I read yesterday in my American Baby Mag that there is a product..it is made by the same company that makes the "gripe" water. They claim in the ad that it is safer then mylicon etc. You can also look in the local health food store. I have found making sure they burp well after eating cuts down on the gas. www.livegreeneasy.com

I would recommend that you find the cause of the gas problems. Try to find natural ways to relieve it. Place the baby on her stomach and rub her back.
Here is a link for you to check out for some ideas. Good luck.

Hi J.,

We tried Gripewater for my daughter when she was only a few weeks old. It didn't work for us, but I have friends and family that swear by it. ;) It might be worth a try.

Good luck!

If you make her legs go into her tummy, like she is riding a bike, that will help relieve some gas.

Try gripe water, it's hard to find but you can get it online. It's not "medicine" it's all natural and it worked for my twins.

Hi J.,

When my son was a few weeks old he had terrible gas. We tried the Mylicon drops; they didnt' work. We switched from playtex drop in bottles to dr. brown's and gas problems were gone within two days! They are a pain to wash but worth it. Also frequent burping.

Hi J.,

Another brand that worked for my son is called Little Remedies. This was part of a gift set I received, but I know Babys r us carries them as well as Target. Hope this helps and God bless.

Have you tried helping her pass her gas? You can bicycle her legs or press them in towards her abdomen and sometimes you will just fart the gas right out of her...plus (at least my son thinks so) it's a great game.
