Relaxing 6 Year Old's Hair

Looking for anyone who uses "Just For Me" hair relaxer for their daughter. My daughter has been begging me to do this for 4 years. We did the allergy test and the strand test today. The strand is still somewhat curly - she wanted it poker straight. Should I leave it on longer (it was on 20 minutes) or do I tell her to just deal with it as it will be straighter than it was!! Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated also. If your opinion is that I shouldn't be relaxing a 6 year old's hair, please keep it to yourself as I'm not interested.

What can I do next?

I haven't used the products yet, but I am sure it is in my future as my children are bi-racial. I would encourage her to love her hair the way it is to begin with, and once she knows how to care for it and style it that way, then she can try a different style. There is nothing wrong with wanting to try out different hair styles, the curly girls always want straight and the straight girls always want curly.

If her hair isn't going to get pin-straight with the product, then now is a good time for her to start to accept that. Just tell her how nice her hair is the way it looks, however it looks.

You can also straighten her hair with a flat iron or a round brush and blowdryer when you are drying it. That might not work on her hair without the relaxer, but with a good hair product and proper tools, you can most likely get her hair pin straight for a few days at a time. Just make sure to use lots of conditioner.

This is a tough one b/c you want her to know she is beautiful no matter what, and that what makes her beautiful is not her hair, but she's a girl, so she wants to feel pretty and there is nothing wrong with that. Good luck.

I won't tell you not to use the relaxer but i will tell you don't leave it on any longer than 20 mins. I can't have a relaxer on my head longer than 20 mins actually i think its on my hair for 15 mins. How long does it say to leave it on. My suggestion is to try to straighten it with a straightening comb or a ceramic iron. they have two kinds: the kind that you can put on the stove and and electric one that you can set the temperature. I would personally use the electric one b/c you can set the temp to a low temperature. I am not sure how well the ceramic iron will work though. My daughter is three and wants her hair straight so i know what you are going through with a child that wants their hair straight. Just remember to tell her that her hair won't be bone straight but that you will try your best to accomodate her. Just for me products are really good though.

I have 2 bi-racial daughters, and yes i used the just for me line.but i would never put a relaxer on anyone that young. My daughter started at 4 asking for [BARBIE} hair like my oldest daughter she never let up so around 6 i took her to many salons and all told me not to perm, relax, highlight her hair untill she gets her period. then she hit the faze she wanted different hair colors in like her friends at school or at dance class.I have many girlfriends who decided not to listen and it ruined their hair. I decided to wait my daughter just turned 13 and we did a mild relaxer and it turned out beautiful she has bum length hair all her own. You can however get a chi straightening iron with the heat spray and that worked just as good as the real thing. I would let it go for know and try a straightner once she see's how pretty it gets she'll forget all about the relaxer.

I would think also way too young to put on kids hair. Do more research.

Teach her to love her hair the way it is.
