It appears my 7 year old son has developed body odor. At the end of everyday, his armpits stink. Can anyone confirm that this is the age their son or daughter started having body odor? Should he be wearing deodorant every day now?

What can I do next?

My daughter will be 8 in November. She's been wearing deoderant since she was 6, after she wrapped her arms around my neck to give me a hug. I was absolutely in shock, she smelled like a construction worker! I bought her some roll on deoderant from a health food store, but if she fails to put it on, watch out!

The children in my family develop body odor early also. First we start by using powder with baking soda in it to after showers. If that does not work, then we use a light/mild deoderant. That usually works. But know this when they get older they will need a stronger deoderant. As an adult most of us use Mitchem deoderant.

My 7 year old daughter started at age 5 and I bought her deodorant. She doesn't need it every day, but on the days she does, I make her wear it. My suggestion is go with him to the store and pick out something he will like. I picked out something mild for her and she likes it. Good luck.

Hello,
My Daugther developed this at the age of 5yrs. I didn't know what to do. I looked up online and went to my local healthfood store. I bought her a probiotic, to put the healthy bacteria back in her system(she had alot of ear & sinus infections earlier). Thier bodies are releasing the toxins in the bodies by under arms, mouth, feet, etc. Not enough water, bowel movements, etc. It's my opinion you should not use deo until the right age. Also whitchhazel works under the arms to refresh them. Try using a different soap when bathing, some don't work with the bodies. I hope this helps you.

Yes, my 8 year old boy has an odor also! The problem is you can't find deodorant for "boys", just men. They make Teen Spirit and things for girls but I have not found anything for boys.
If you find something, please share!

My little girl started to have stinky pits at the age of 7 the doctor said it could be due to her eczema but it could also just be what she is eating. She has been wearing deodorant ever since ( unscented ) she is now 12.

Hi M. W,

My niece started getting bad body odor at the age of 7 years old as well, we took her to the doctor and the doctor said that it happens at this age. So, yes i would suggest getting deordarant and wear it everyday.

My step-daughter had to start wearing deodorant at age 7. Some kids just need to start sooner than others because of their changing bodies. Now she is 10 and most of her friends use it so your son wouldn't really be that far away from using it if he starts now.

My daughter began developing body odor around 7 years also. It was definitely the beginning of puberty and she developed pretty quickly after that. She's 11 now and most aspects of puberty are done for her. She's been wearing deodorant for a few years now and really needs it everyday.

My 8 year old son, however, still doesn't have any signs of body odor or puberty.

HI,

Don't be too worried, my 2 yr old daughter gets underarm odor and the doc said although its not common its not a problem. Try Tom's all natural deorderant.

Every child is different. My mother started her period at eight years old. Thank goodness I wasn't like that. Anyway, my little brother had to start showering morning and at night at about that age and he also started wearing deoderant everyday as well. He had a mustache in junior high. It isn't out of the ordinary for his age. Now if he was growing facial hair at five I might worry.

Yes....boys....body odor....early! It's a great time to be giving him a lesson in good hygiene. Men's or boy's deodorant, I don't know that there is a deodorant for boys. My son has been using deodorant for a few years. What does matter is that it is a "deodorant" and NOT a "anti-perspirant/deodorant" because products containing Aluminum chlorhydrate can clog pores (even adults should shy away from this). My son likes "'AXE" and there are many different fragrances - some can be strong so smell them in the store. And...show him how to do it...not too much, just a swipe or they'll get crazy with it. If you are uncomfortable with these brands, maybe there is a brand that can be found at a health food store that would be considered milder. Good luck.

My eight year old got his deodrant at five. Chemical changes do start earlier for some people. My eight year old is getting the leg and chest hair so far. I think he will be a hairy stinky monster soon.

It is not a big deal for arm pits to stink and to introduce a male or female to better hygiene styles. Also deodrants do not also work on a person so you may have to try a few.

I hope the feet do not stink. That is a big challange. Thank God for fresh wave products

I wouldn't worry too much. My 7 year old and 9 year old daughters both have stinky pits, especially in the summer. :) i asked the dr. And he said it is normal. They both use teen spirit. I have tried the natural stuff, but it doesn't mask the odor. Good luck!

My daughter is 8 and has been using it for a couple of years now. If he stinks, let him use it...it is better than having his friends notice.

My 2nd son got his body odor at 5! It seems to be starting earlier in children now. He came home from school one day and walked past me. i caught a whiff of him and couldn't believe it. He has had to wear deodorant ever since. They have some new natural stuff out there so you won't be putting so many chemicals on them at a young age. I have a 6 and a 4 year old son also. I am just waiting.

Yes, my daughter started this around 7. Make sure you buy deodorant only and not deodorant with anti-perspirant.
