So What Happened?

We stayed at The Dream Inn in Santa Cruz and it was so worth it! We had an ocean-front balcony room, the cleaning staff brought us a bottle of champagne because they noticed it was our anniversary, complimentary valet parking, private pool/lounge area with a bar! We couldn't have asked for a nicer stay. We had a great view of the pier/wharf and the Boardwalk - both were walking distance from out hotel. Highly recommend the restaurant 'Riva' on the pier/wharf and the 'Shadowbrook Inn' in Capitola. Thanks to all of the MOMS who responded with advice!!

We had a great experience at The Mariposa in Monterey. We upgraded to a suite when we checked in. Found an internet deal for $150/night last year. It's also right across from Whole Foods so we were able to get wine, cheese and other snacks to eat on their spa/deck area under patio heaters.

I highly recommend the Seascape Resort in Aptos (near Capitola). It's between Santa Cruz and Monterey - closer to Santa Cruz. It's a great family friendly resort on the ocean. They have been doing specials all summer though I'm not sure they apply on weekends. It's beautiful with lots to do in the area.

Hi S.,
A place I have ALWAYS wanted to stay, but can not afford, The Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay.So if budget is not a problem.....I have a family member who lives in the golf course community adjacent to the Ritz, so we stay in thier guest room..not the same thing but still a really beautiful area.
We have always enjoyed beaches either a little more south(southern cal) or more North...like Fort Bragg area. We are camping later this month just north of there @ Mac kerricher state park...if u like camping? I know these are two extreme's but it depends what you consider a getaway. For me, it's a luxury hotel & Spa...for my husband it's camping, fishing, laying in his hammock...oh well, someday I hope he will see it my way...LOL
Have a good time...

Hi S.,

If you are looking for something affordable and kid friendly, then I would stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Salinas. It is right off of highway 101 and just minutes from Monterey. It is about 45 minutes from Santa Cruz. They have a really delicious (and free) breakfast complete with made to order omlettes. There are lots of great places to stay in Monterey proper but they are pretty pricey. I travel a lot with work and can give you plenty of suggestions. Maybe you can let me know if you are traveling with kids or not and what your price range is. I have stayed in many hotels both in Santa Cruz and Monterey.

Hi S.,
When I spent the night in the Monterey Bay area I stayed in Seaside at the motel 6 which was reasonable. I also stayed at the Moneterey Bay Inn but it is very expensive and wonderful. I am planning a trip next month to Monterey with my children and grandchildren and I want it to be nice but not pricey. I will take them to the aquarium which is so much fun.
