Pregnancy Pain and Bleeding

I gave birth to a perfectly healthy girl, but during my first trimester I had terrible (and I mean TERRIBLE) cramping, and pretty bad bleeding. I went to the emergency room once, just because the pain was so bad. It would keep me up all night, and I would actually lose control of my bladder and vomit, etc. when the cramping was at its worst. After experiencing labor, if labor is a 10, my first trimester cramping was like an 8. Did anyone else experience this kind of pain? I am asking because I'm starting to think about our second child...and hoping I don't have to endure that for three months again! The bleeding throughout was also scary. Any advice will be helpful. :)

What can I do next?

I did not have the cramping, but I had a lot of bleeding with my first pregnancy. At no time did my doctor say this was normal or OK. I also had vomiting from morning sickness very badly, to the point that I was loosing weight and the Dr. was giving me prescription anti nausea suppositories. However my second pregnancy was a delight. Very little nausea, no bleeding. Every child is different and every pregnancy is differeny. I would encourage you to talk to your OB/GYN though. They would be more educated on what caused your problems the first time around. Good Luck!

I have never had cramping or bleeding in any pregnancy , but I do know that it is not normal and it should be looked into. Did the doctors give any suggestions as to what it could be? I have had 3 kids and my 3rd pregnancy was the worst with lot's of sickness , it ended with an appendicitis that ruptured at 34 weeks , this caused a lot of abdominal pain and vomiting and I know a rumbling appendix can cause similar symptoms. Maybe that could have been the culprit? Sometimes an appendix can rumble and cause pain and then go away , not sure if it will come back again one day and be an actual appendicitis , you would need to look into that.

I don't know anything about your medical history, but I can tell you that my second pregnancy is shaping up to be dramatically different from my first. I had no cramping or bleeding during the first pregnancy (I have had pretty bad cramping and some bleeding this time), but I was sick and nauseous all the time, for most of the pregnancy, and I was only sick for about 3 weeks this time. Did you ever find out why you had such terrible cramping and bleeding? If not, that may be a first step. If you did, talk to your doctor about the likelihood of it happening again. And if the chances are pretty good that it will happen again, confront whether you could be happy with just one. Good luck.

I had a lot of the same symptoms the first time around as well. The second time was perfect though! I only had some mild cramping in the first three months - more like a 3 on the scale. I didn't bleed or anything. I don't really have any advice to give, except to say that each pregnancy is different. And, good luck! Regardless of what you go through, the outcome is always BEAUTIFUL!
