hey ladys!
so, we just found out on thursday that we are expecting #4. it was a bit of a surprise, but i am so thrilled!! however, i am also very nervous this time around about losing this baby. i dont know why. i have never lost one (THANK GOD!) and have never been so nervous about it. i have been crampy, which my dr has always told me will happen, but ive had other people tell me that it isnt a good thing. there is no spotting. i feel really nauseous all day, which ive heard was a good thing. i havent made a dr appointment yet (i will on monday) and when i do, i will mention the cramping. i guess i am just looking for some people that have gone thru the same thing and might be able to ease my mind a little. thank you mamas!!

What can I do next?

I suffered a miscarriage last year and than it took 14 months for me to get pregnant...needless to say I have been a nervous wreck. I cramped a lot in my first trimester and even do on and off in the second and it is normal. I've had 3 ultrasounds and everything looks good. Just relax!!

I've heard about the phenomenon some mother's experience on their third (and more) babies. I think it was explained that these mothers, while having healthy babies previously, now suddenly feel like their pushing their luck?

I only have the one baby, so I can't REALLY say. But I HAVE learned one thing in my almost ten months of motherhood (and six months of bedrest!!), while some fears may seem irrational and "over the top" it's all quite real to the woman and should be treated as such!!!

Don't worry about the cramping. And remember each pregnancy is different. Just because you didn't have cramping before it doesn't mean you won't with this one! Just try to relax and mention it to the doctor when you get there!

And CONGRATS!!!

Not to make you nervous but my forth pregnancy I was crampy until the day I delivered. It was hard at the end when my midwife asked if I had any contractions and I honestly couldn't tell her. I was crampy with all my pregnancys but this one was the worst. I spotted a few times too. I was always calling my midwife because I got alot of pressure like he was going to fall out. She laughed because she said alot of moms feel that but assured me he was not even close to "falling" out. She did however say that for some reason the forth pregnancy was the worst so it wasn't just me and went on to say that my fifth would be easier, she so funny...but I carried full term otherwise fine and had a natural delivery. It's true that with each pregnancy and as we get older the more we fear. I hope you can relax and enjoy this pregnancy, remember they aren't all the same.

Hi Rachel. Congratulations! I had lots of cramping with both my children. They were both born very healthy. I scared myself by looking up cramping in pregnancy books which all told me about miscarriages. I then went to my doctor who eased my mind. She said our bodies start changing as soon as we get pregnant. Our body in now accomodating to carry the baby. You will be fine.

Hi R.,
With my first pregnancy I had no symptoms no aching boobs, no morning sickness, I wasn't tired infact I had never felt better but let me tell you with my second I was sick from day 1, had horrible horrible cramping which I was told was completely normal especially if it isn't your first you're more in tune to your body so you feel more. I would mention the cramps to your ob just to help put your mind at ease but I'm sure he/she will tell you its normal. Good luck. Congrats on #4.

think of the nausea as a good thing. I had it with both my kids and a friend didn't. She lost the baby at 6-8 wks. I'm sure you'll feel better mentally after you see the doctor. Remember you have 3 beautiful kids already.

Try and get an ultrasound as early as possible. I had 2 miscarriages before my son *one at 6 weeks, one at 12..*, so i was REALLY stressed that something would go wrong the third time. I had my ultrasound at my first doctor's visit and he confirmed his heartbeat and growth. It was such a relief!! I think that would help ease your mind, and until then, just look at those beautiful babies you already have, and prepare for one more!! Ha ha. Congratulations!

Hi R.,
I only have one little guy and have never lost a baby before but I will say the first two months I was pregnant I had extreme cramping. Almost like really bad period cramps. I was just my hormones out of wake and my belly growing. I also had really horrible gas pains throughout my whole pregnancy. Nothing to look forward to but Im sure part of it is just your hormones and maybe your nerves in a
subconscious kind of way saying your nervous this time around because you are oldedr and this pregnancy wasn't planned. I would do something positive to keep your mind off of things.
Best of Luck and COngratulations!

Hi R.,

I have four little ones too, and my oldest was 5.5 when the baby was born! Pregnancy can be so stressful, and when all the other little ones add some chaos to your life, it can be even harder. Of course I can't tell you that "everything is fine", but I know that I did have cramping pain at the beginning of each one of my pregnancies, and it wasn't a problem. If you were having bleeding, it would be more concerning, but the cramping can be from implantation, uterine stretching, and a host of other things. I hope that you are able to relax and enjoy your pregnancy...the doctor's appointment will probably help to reassure you. Try to get some rest (difficult I know), and I wish you all the best!

I have a theory that the older you are and the more you know, makes you more neurotic about babies (health, care, safety, etc.) Take a deep breath and have some tea (decaf) and wait til the appointment.

Best of Luck and Congratulations!

hi- I am 10 weeks pregnant with my third child and at about 6-7 weeks I had cramping and spotting. I called my OB saying that I was having a misscarriage. I have had 2 in the past, so I knew the symptoms and I was sure of it. I had an ultrasound a couple of days later and the baby was there doing fine. I had to have a follow up ultrasound a week later and the baby was still doing great. Within that week, I still had spotting and cramping and was suree the pregnancy was not going to last. Well, I am 10.5 weeks and everything is stil great. I do not have any more cramping or spotting, just really nauseous! I just think our bodies react to preganancy like that sometimes. Good luck!

Congratulations! I have had a miscarriage, so i'm quite compassionate to your concern. The fact that you're feeling sick is a great sign that you have a healthy pregnancy! It means The hormone levels are high and that usually represents a strong pregnancy. This is NOT an old wives tale. I did research on it. Also, I was a puker w/ my two successful pregnancies and never felt ill w/ the baby i lost.

Hope this gives you a bit of peace of mind.

Hi R.,

Congratulations on the news of your expecting! I will agree with your doctor. Don't fret about the cramping. Cramping is common when a woman has been pregnant multiple times. Unless you are actually bleeding I don't think you should be concerned. The cramping usually goes away after the first trimester. God Bless.

I know this is late, but thought I would still comment. I am the mother of three grown children. I had one very late miscarriage between the second and third child. I had nausea and cramping with all three pregnancies that went full term. With both my two younger children I even had spotting. With the miscarriage, I felt fine! No cramping, nausea, spotting, etc. EVER. They ended up doing a D&C. With my fourth pregnancy (third child) I had a sinking feeling the entire time. Even after ultrasounds showed no problems. I was convinced that I was going to need a C-Section with that pregnancy. Even though I had delivered vaginally in previous deliveries. Not only did I not have a C-Section, I didn't even have an episiotomy (sp??) I felt that I was tempting fate... I had two healthy boys and what are the odds of having another healthy child? But I did have another healthy child and a VERY easy delivery. I think it's normal for mothers to worry during pregnancy. It sounds like you'll be just fine! Good luck.

Hi there!
I'm 19 weeks pregnant today - and had plenty of cramping in the whole first trimester! Sometimes it felt like period cramps, other times not even that noticeable - but it's normal! The uterus does a lot of stretching and adjusting to make room for that little growing one! As long as you're not bleeding red, or having severely painful cramping, all should be just fine. Even some brown/pink spotting is normal - I had that two or three times in my first trimester as well. Try not to stress about it, as that is bad for you and baby! Being nauseous is also good - any pregnancy symptoms are like a reassurance that those hormones are building up in your system for a healthy pregnancy! I hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy! :)

I have 2 kids, and have also had a very early miscarriage. But don't let the fear of miscarriage ruin your happiness. There is nothing you can do about it, try not to worry, it isn't good for the baby. :-)

also, the cramping is normal, you have 3 other kids, so keep in mind that your body is more sensitive after having more than 1, you'll feel things a lot more, plus, remember your uterus is getting bigger, and with you having had 3 already, you'll show a lot sooner, so that means that your uterus is stretching sooner, and that will cause cramping and uncomfortableness.

Congrats! and enjoy your happiness. Try not to worry until there is something to worry about (I know easier said than done)

Best of luck!

Hi R.,
All your symptoms are signs that the pregnancy is progressing. If you are miscarrying, some signs would be spotting, bleeding with cramping and you have no symptoms of being pregnant (sleepy, nausea, etc.).
The cramping you feel is normal. You have no control over a miscarriage and although it is heartbreaking to miscarry, it's god's way of taking care. Please celebrate your wonderful news and offer good, positive energy to your growing baby. All the best to you.

My understanding is that there is some cramping when the egg implants on the uterus. Don't worry. All will be well. Congratulations!!!!

Hi R., Not too long ago, within the past month or so I submitted a request because I was literally panicked about miscarrying this time. I miscarried last July. I have a healthy 21 month old now so I knew that my body could do it. With the miscarriage I had no nausea and felt better than ever. About 2 weeks before it happened I kept telling my husband that I didn't feel pregnant. With my first pregnancy and this one I had bad nausea and with this one I had pretty good cramps on my side and sometimes period like ones. I'm now 8 weeks and I don't feel them anymore so I feel much better and relaxed about the whole thing, plus getting all the feedback on here really helped. Check out my posts if you have a chance.
