Pregnancy Exercise Videos

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my second child and as daylight savings time starts this weekend, I can no longer walk for exercise in the evenings. I do not get home from work until 6:00 and by the time I get my son fed, it will be too dark. I will keep walking on the weekends but during the week, I need something I can do to help stay in shape. I put on 60 pounds with my first son, which I lost before I got pregnant again, and I am trying not to put on that much weight again. Does anyone have any recomendations of pregnancy work out videos that I could do. I have a yoga video that I love, but I would like more options. I will have to get up at 5:00 in the morning to do this so I need workouts that will be only about 20-30 min long.

What can I do next?

J.,
I have used the Pregnancy Pilates video and I really enjoyed it. You may want to try that. Hope you like it and good luck with the pregnancy.

Invest in a treadmill. You will LOVE having it at home. Also if you have been lifting weights continue doing this. I used a heart rate monitor when I exercised when I was preagnant with each of my 2 kids. My doctor did not want my heart rate over 130 and the heart rate monitor was the answer. I am an avid exerciser and was before I was prenant with my kids. It was hard for me w/o the monitor to keep my heart rate to 130. I belong to a health club and after I had each of my kids, I hired a trainer to help me get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I used the trainer about 5 times to start with. After that I hire a trainer once per year for about 3 sessions. It is good to do this as we can get in a rut with our work out routines. I always notice inches lost when I train. Good luck.

If you have comcast cable tv, there is an exercise on demand option that has (or at least did the last I checked) prenatal workouts available. Otherwise, I recommend a treadmill if you can afford it. I used mine throughout my first pregnancy and loved it!

Along with exercise, when you are pregnant it is so important to make sure you are eating and drinking healthy. With my first pregnancy I gained 50 pounds and I was eating right but I was drinking so much whole milk and a ton of juice. So if you aren't drinking it already switch to skim milk. My doctor said not to drink any juice at all. And stay away from fast food as much as possible. And since I realized how important my eating habits were I only gained 24 pounds with my second child and 20 with my third. I hope this helps and congratulations!

Hi J.,

I have one of Shiva Rea's pregnancy yoga videos and it was pretty nice. It's geared towards different exercises for each trimester.

Also, I took prenatal yoga at Natural Lullabies (www.naturallullabies.com) and I liked it more than the video. They were there to make sure you were in the correct position and modify if they saw you having problems with any particular pose.

Hope that helps!

Hi J.,

Hope you can make it because I gain a lot more weight with my second pregnancy than my first one and always took good care in eating and exercising...sometimes you gain any way but you'll loose it later.
I think that if you are used to walk and you like it, it is good to stay with what you have been doing, I would get a treadmill, you can get a used one or a cheap one, but my advice would be to get a better one if you can. It will also be helpfull when your baby sleeps at home later on. I have one that didn't use for years and I found myself using it a lot after my abby was born. I also own an eliptical that I love, but if you are not use to do this type of exercise you should talk to your doctor before starting anything new in the middle of pregnancy, your hearth ratio can affect the baby (don't know much about this but my doctor told me that when I was preganant) Your pulse is not duppose to be higher than i think it was 140? but with the elliptical for some reason I was going higher so I had to stop using it and started with the treadmill.
Best of luck!

Hi J.,

With my first two kids I did the Denise Austin pregnancy work out video and liked it. It's not too long because I understand about time. I'm sure Target has some newer ones you could check into as well. Good job staying active during your pregnancy. Take care!
