I have successfully potty trained my two daughter, however no matter what I try I cannot get my sons pee to stay in the toilet. He is interested. He wants to go on the potty, but sits there and pees on the floor. I have tried the little pee guards...he won't let his little "package" stay where it is supposed to. I have even tried putting my hand there and letting the pee roll down my hand...still manages to pee up my arm and on the floor. My son is 23 mo. and has been interest for a long time. Anyone out there with boy...I need advice.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all the wonderful advice. So far my son has no interest in standing while he pees. With a little more patients on my part I am sure it will come eventually. I am going to try placing a small cloth on his lap to see if I can keep the mess contained.

Get a little step so he can learn to stand while going. Put a few cheerios into the toilet so he will learn to aim by sinking them.

If you don't like that, there is a great new product called the Peter Potty that's height adjustable and made just for little guys learning this big boy task.

Boy do I feel your pain...I also tried several of the great ideas that are posted. My son also refused to sit, wanted to be like his dad. So I didn't fight it. What worked for my son was fruit loops. He liked the colors. Put a couple of each color in and he would have to pick a new color and aim! Doesn't that sound like fun...Not much to look at from my end, but what ever works..right? Good luck.

my first hated to sit to pee- he wanted to stand up like daddy. So we got a stool and he thought it was so much fun he went like a million times a day. If it works though just make sure he concentrates on aiming- I made the mistake of talking to my son who turned his whole body and well made quite a mess! good luck

LOL it's been said but a stool and some cheerios for target practice should do the trick. just make sure the stool isn't to high or it makes it harder to aim. good luck.

A., I have 3 boys, 2 of which are potty trained. The only thing that you can really do is to push their wee wee down and hold it there while they pee. You will eventually teach him to push it down, and hold it there, when he goes to the bathroom until he learns to stand and go pee. Once he is ready to stand and go pee then I would suggest buying a step stool and putting it in front of the potty from him to use. My sons never used the pee guard, half of the time they just ended up knocking it into the toilet, they just learned to point their wee wee's down. Well, I hope this help a little. Good luck!

Hi A.. I put my son on the toilet backwards. The only bad thing about this way is that he has to take his pants and pull-up completely off. But he seems to be okay with that. When we are in public I put him further back on the seat, which usually requires me holding him up a little, and make sure his clothes Hope this helps, good luck!

Put some Fruit Loops in the toilet and have him try to hit them. Just make a fun game of it with no pressure. Encourage him like you would if he were throwing a ball...it's all in the aim. Good luck!

Hello. A.!
I have a 2 1/2 year old son. What I did, I bought the musical potty chair. It had an adjustable guard in the front that moves up and down. It also sings when it gets wet. My son LOVED it. I also made sure to make such a big deal out of him going potty. I bought him suckers/candy and stickers. And when he went, I let him have them and also call PaPa on the phone. He loves talking on the phone. For the first week, he ran around the house in shirt ONLY. Then when we got that down, the second week, we did, pull up and a shirt, then moved to pants, then eventually nothing but his big boy undies. He did a great job and loved all the extra attention for going potty. He still makes a mess when he potties to this day. He usually goes in the trash can, his aim is always to the right for some reason, needless to day, I'm scrubbing my toilet almost everyday. Good luck!!!
