My 2 1/2 year old son is starting to use the potty. He has the Baby Bjorn Potty with the splash guard, but recently the pee has been splashing all over the place AND on him. He obviously hates this. Is their a technique or trick to potty training boys?

What can I do next?

I too bought a potty chair and used it only twice. It is too messy to clean and became is sang and stuff, became more of a toy than a potty to him. We went right to the big potty. When he was too short to stand at it himself, he would sit. If we were in public, I would have him stand on my feet and I would hold him a little higher. Honestly we attempted potty training a few times and he just wasn't ready. When he was, it happened in one day. So I say if it is taking more than a few days, back off a little and try again in another month or so.

I am a Sunday School teacher of 2-3 yr olds at my local church. The best method we have found with the boys is to remove the pants, & straddle them backwards on the big pottie, facing the tank. This allows them to lean over & balance with one arm on the tank, & everything goes into the pottie with a minimum of splashing. Once they have some experience with the potty, & "holding" themself, then they can start standing on a stool in front of the pottie.

We just had our son sit backwards (facing the tank) on the regular toilet. It helped with the splashing from pee and was easier for him to learn to poop (he listened for the "plop" sound and it worked!).

Hi B.,

With my boys they did not like any of the little potties, so we had them sit on the big toilet and push it down between their legs into the bowl to pee. Then as they got taller and could reach, they preferred to stand.

Hope this helps,

S.

Hi B.. I would stop using the 'potty' and use the big boy toilet. have him stand on a step stool if he can't reach. I used to put a few fruit loops or cheerios in the toilet and instruct my boys (i have 4) to 'aim' for the cereal. For the most part, they were trained in about a week or 2. Good Luck!

Make sure it's pushed down. It rises when they go so if it's just right their it will hit the splash and go everywhere. One of my boys was short so he had to sit to go till he was 5 and even then if he forgot to "push it down" it would get him in the face. So after you sit him on it make sure it's pointed at the bottom of the bowl. GOOD LUCK.

Throw a couple of cherrios in the toilet bowl and make it a game to aim for them.Get your husband to show him how to stand & hold himself by watching Daddy do it.Get the Kandu foaming hand wash & give him his own towel, a long one so he can reach it w/o your help.

I've seen baby urinals if he is not tall enough for the actual potty, but as far as peeing, I've heard some people that put fruit loops in the toilet and make it a game. Trying to shoot at the fruit loops. It's fun for them and teaches them where the pee should go. Good luck!

I have two potty trained boys. If your son is tall enough to stand at the real potty or will use a stool, that worked best for me. Otherwise, you have to teach them to push themselves down and direct the pee so - the splash guards don't work in my experience. You might have dad teach him to stand and pee if that is possible - learning by example is always good.

Throw Cheerios in the toilet, let him kneel and aim.
Very successful way to train little boys. Worked here
three times. Good luck.

He needs to be taught to aim. Get a step stool for the bathroom. They sell them with handles for the bathroom. Thats what worked for my son
