HELP...Boy Peeing All over My Bathroom...

I was hoping someone has some tips on how to get my son to pee IN the potty and not "around" it. Here is background...My son is just 2 years old and of "average" height, (50 percentile). He is potty trained and doing GREAT, except that he sits because he isnt tall enough to stand, and his "winkie" pees outside of the little potty. He holds it down, but it still comes out. The only way he doesnt pee all over either me, his pants, his hand, or the floor is if I pick him up and face him backwards on the big toilet. That is fine, except I would like for him to be able to learn that he doesnt need mommy to help him go to the bathroom. He is doing a great job of pulling his pants down and knowing when to go which is a huge accomplishment I know...But maybe someone has a trick that would save me some cleaning and laundry!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advise and support! I have put away the potty and have gotten a stool. Zach is now only using the big potty standing! I havent had to try the cherrio's yet because its so new he is just looking down trying hard to get it in, so i will try the "targets" when he starts to dawdle and look around like you all have said. Thanks again!!

When my son was little he used to also pee everywhere..he would be looking all around instead of looking where he was peeing..we started letting him put in a few cherrio's before we went and useing them as target pratice..whcih got him to pay attention and perfect his aim..no more peeing all over....

Get him a stool...they sell them @ WalMart, KMart, Target, etc.
They're also usefule for getting him to wash his hands & brushing his teeth.

My 3 year old stands but on occasion, he still wants to sit and he climbs up and sits backwards. He can do it himself, he could do it when he was 2 also, he just turned 3. Anyway, is there a stool in front of the toilet to help him? He is only 2 so I don't think he would really think he always needs you when he goes potty but since he is only 2, it seems to me he might need you. GOOD JOB for getting your son potty trained so early!!

J.,
Have you thought of trying a target? You don't need to buy those expensive store ones, just throw some cheerios in the toilet and make it a game for him to get his aim down pat.
Hope this helps!

Every boy pees all over the bathroom, even the grown up ones.lol But seriously, give him a stool to stand on so that he can pee standing up by himself. That is what I did with my son until he was tall enough to reach from the floor. Good Luck!!

My son is also potty trained, hes the same age. I got him a stool. And he holds "it" down in the potty. And if that still doesn't work for him, try throwing some cheerios in the toilet, have him aim for those. (really, it works!) Or if you dont' want to have the possiblity of him peeing in his breakfast (just kidding) they do sell some "targets"....if you will.. at the store, I think I saw them at Target. They are made especially for the toilet, so you wont plug it, and they are sold in the potty seat section for babies. Good luck, let me know how it turns out.

How about getting him a small sturdy step to stand on so he can get up there and be the right size. Than do the ol cheerio trick in the toilet for accuracy and explain peeing on the seat/rim is yucky and he can help you clean it up (start em now!!) that way if he does miss he will understand it still needs to be cleaned up too. Helps both of you. Good Luck!

J.,
Try having your son stand on a stool and pee in the big potty. Throw some fruit loops in there and have him try and aim at them. I have 2 boys and this is the advice I always get when I mention potty training. A couple of weeks ago my oldest smashed his "thing" in the toilet lid. So you want to make sure that you hold it up for him. But he was having trouble aiming because his "thing" was swollen, so my neighbor suggested to use a plate to block the stream.
Good luck,
C.

My son pees all over the place to, so I remind him to hold it down, and close his legs, this way, its guaranteed to go in the potty. He's not standing up yet either, its too confusing, especially if he has to pee and go #2.
Good Luck!

This worked for me... my son who is now 5 had a similar problem... my mom suggested that I get a small step-stool (one that he could put in front of the toilet by himself) for him to stand on at the "big potty". It was only about 4-6 inches off the floor when he was on it, but it was just enough that he was able to use the "big potty" to go by himself. The only problem I encountered was that he was a little leary of falling off the back of it, so we made a "back" to the stool so that he had something behind him so that he was more comfortable standing on it and not worrying about falling off the back of it.
Good luck! and hopefully this might work for you also!

Buy a bag of cheap cheerios and have him put one in the toilet before he pee's. Next buy a step stool to put him up to level with the potty. He will do his best to try and hit it which should help with his aim.

Hi J.,
This may sound a little crazy but you could try throwing Cheerio's in the toilet and make a game out of having him "hit" them. Congratulations on having him toilet-trained by 2 1/2. My son was 3 1/2 by the time he was really toilet-trained.

I just wanted to say thanks. I have two 3 year olds and a 27 year old that pees all over my bathroom! (I have one son and babysit during the week.. and I'm married) I now know.. I am not alone! I feel like I'm always cleaning the bathroom floor and bath mat. I'm glad it's not just me! The Mom who said about boys peeing first thing in the morning really hit the nail on the head!! Both my boys miss the pot first thing in the morning. I keep some Lysol wipes in the bathroom to just wipe it up quick to keep the mess and smell to a minimum. Good luck!!

I have three boys so I understand. When they were smaller I would have them take one leg out of their pants, that helps them to be able to open up their legs more and hold it down better. Good luck.

When my husband helped potty train his newphew they played the aim for the cherrios game. Just put a cherrio in the potty and have your son aim for it. It gives them a target.

Hi J.,

I just went through the same thing potty training my two year old son and we wanted him to learn to stand up and go because it was hard when we were in public bathrooms. My mom actually brought him a Urinal. It's called Peter Potty Little Boys Flushing Training Urinal. It cost $39 bucks but it's worth it. You can get it on line at walmart.com. It's great because you can adjust it to his height and you put water in the top and when he's finish he can just push the button and water comes out of the top like it's flushing and washes anything that left down in to a compart below just like the potty's have. I hope this helps. He also used a little kids step at the big toilet and now he doesn't use anything at all. Good Luck.
