Possible Sickness, Should We Skip Thanksgiving?

So my 19 month old spent the majority of the weekend with our 8 yr old niece- circus Sat. morning, family party Sat. night, and Sunday my husband took them both to the park. OF COURSE last night our niece started vomiting and now has a high fever. She stayed home with grandpa today, but her mom has not made her a doctor's appt. We are supposed to go to his parents tomorrow for his mom's bday, and of course Thursday is Thanksgiving. Now, I realize that whatever she has, my husband and daughter have probably already been exposed, but so has much of the family at the party Saturday night.
So my question is- am I crazy for wanting to keep all of us home this week? I don't know if it is H1N1, but of course that's my suspicion. I've had my shot, but haven't been able to get it for my daughter or husband yet. My daughter's doc just got it in today, and we have an appt for tomorrow morning. Even if it's not that, I really don't wanna deal with ANY kind of sickness, esp since I'm pregnant. And even if the niece stays home from the festivities this week (which I know her mother, and it won't happen) I'm afraid of other family members carrying it without knowing. My doc told me it can incubate in the body for a week without you showing symptoms.
UGH. I think even if I convince hubs that my daughter and I should stay home, he'll still go himself and bring whatever it is home. I'm not usually this paranoid about germs but I really don't know what to do.
Am I being nuts?

no, you're not nuts, you're pregnant. and if it makes you feel better to stay home, then stay home. and if it makes you feel better for your husband to stay home too, I think he should also stay home just to be supportive of you, if nothing else. maybe you can plan to have a little family party at home so there will be something planned for the three of you that way they aren't pouting about missing something. And the relatives should be understanding -- if not, they'll get over it. that's my two cents anyway...

Unless you don't plan on going on where, I'd go. I'm 38.5 weeks pregnant, with a 20 month old that is teething and putting everything in her mouth!, and I'm acting normally. I did get both flu shots (though I just got the H1N1, and don't believe I will be inoculated for at least another week.)

Unless you plan on having other people do your grocery shopping, etc. family events at least have bathrooms with soap.

Just wash your hands a lot and try not to put them near your face. And you are right, to escape the germs, you'd have to prevent your hubby from leaving the house too! It's just not possible, so you might as well act normally and just try hard to keep your hands clean. Keep hand cleaner in your car and use it after shopping, etc. That's all you can really do.

I am not sure what type of advice to give you. I along with my husband and 2.5 year old daughter have had it already and I have been told there is more than just one type of virus going around. Its also cold/flu season so in the end it could just be a cold or the flu. Also if you go out to the grocery store, the mall etc you are putting yourself at risk possibly just as much as going to your families house for Thanksgiving but since you are pregnant I am not sure if you should go or not. I would call your OB doctor and speak with them about it and see what they suggest. Good luck!

I know H1N1 can have vomiting, but no one I've talked to who has had it has had that symptom (and our pediatrician says the usual symptoms they are seeing are sudden onset high fever, sometimes cough, general respiratory symptoms for H1N1.) Changes are she has another virus.

But this time of year it is tough. It seems like every time our extended family gets together for the holidays someone spreads something! I wouldn't blame you if you do stay home, but don't tell the real reason why if you do - tell family someone's coming down with something. (or your niece's family might feel like they ruined the holiday for everyone else.)
