Possible Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation?

I'm 24 and have 2 kids of my own. After my son was born in 2006 I had my tubes tied during the csection. I was wondering if there was neone out there that had experience of getting pregnant after the tubal. I've been having problems with my cycle being late which always ends up sending me off for a pregnancy test. I am currently late again and will be going tommorrow for yet another test. Me and my fiance don't want anymore children due to the fact we have 4 altogether. The latest is a lil girl that was born premature about a mth ago from a previous relationship. Am I just bn paranoid or is it possible to get pregnant after a tubal?

What can I do next?

This is one of those times when you need to go to the doctor asap because of the risk of have an ectopic pregnancy. A tubal litigation means that you had your tubes cut and then burned. With young women it is possible that the tubes can grow back after such a procedure, which is why this procedure is not usually done on women as young as you are. While it is possible that you are pregnant, the most likely scenario is that it would be an ectopic pregnancy which is dangerous for you if caught late. I will tell you not to worry overly much because it is unlikely so soon after the operation, but I would still recommend you going to the doctor. Good luck and let us know!

It's possible but unlikely. It also depends on the type of procedure of ligation -- you may want to ask your doctor of the failure rate of the different types of ligation, and which one you had. I *think* the old-fashioned kind of actually "tying" your tubes has one failure rate; then there is "ligation" in which the tube is actually cut which would have a lower failure rate; and now the newest kind that I've heard of, in which they put some sort of object into the tube which then scars completely shut. This last kind I think has the lowest failure rate, and may in fact be zero, and it cannot be reversed. But if you're going to a doctor for a pregnancy test anyway, you should ask him/her about this, as well as why your period may be late so frequently. While I prefer more natural methods of dealing with female problems (check out a health food store or something for more info), you may prefer to go on birth control to regulate your cycle for a while.

yes its possable to get pregnate in the tubes as my high risk ob/gyn told me tubligation isnt 100% but if you are pregnate in the tubes you usually loose the fetus becouse there isnt room in the tubes for it to grow.if you get a positive reading you best make a doctors appointment for your health sake.

A., several things may be causing your cycle to be late.
Stress, worry, but also your thyroid. That can be tested with a simple blood test.

I would definitely be making an appointment with a OB/GYN to have a thorough exam and consultation about what is going on.

It sounds like you're obsessing about being pregnant, but that's just how I interpreted it. Do you have some resentment about the other woman he had a sexual relationship with just delivering recently? Are you possibly wishing you could conceive again even though you consciously don't want that outcome with your current relationship??
Seems very soon to be engaged but that's just my opinion.
Instead of running out and buying an OTC test every time you're late, it would be better to tell your gyn about what's going on with your cycles, and get an expert opinion.
Were your tubes "tied" or "burned"?? I don't think they actually tie them anymore, because of increased chance of them re-bonding and resulting in pregnancy. When the "burn" them or cauterize each segment of the severed tubes after cutting them, then the chances are extremely low for a pregnancy.
You really need to discuss your issues with your doctor, and I'm sure he can explain and answer any questions you have.

Hi A.,
This is not going to be the response that you want, but I myself am a result of getting pregnant after tubal ligation. My sister was born May 17, 1976 and my mom had tubal ligation at the time of her c-section. 3 months later she was pregnant with me!! This is not very common but I also have an aunt that got pregnant 2 years after having one done and my husband's ex-wife got pregnant again as well. I also had a tubal ligation after my daughter was born (8 years ago), and I too have had what felt like symptoms of being pregnant but they have always been negative. I figure if God wants me to have another one then He knows what He is doing, otherwise the sugery will work.
Best of luck to you!

I don't want to minimize the concern that it may be a pregnancy, because it is possible.

Another possibility though, is Post Tubal Syndrome. It is suspected that when you disrupt the blood flow between fallopian tubes, ovaries, and uterus that you get these crazy hormonal changes and symptoms... like irregular periods.

Look it up, and maybe it will ease your mind a little. Don't neglect to take a pregnancy test though!

Is it possible? sure. Probable? Not so much. Depends really on the type you had done. When I got mine done, I specifically requested they be cut and tied, not clamped. I have met several people over the years who had gotten pregnant after a clamped tubal, but I have met a few who have had children after a regular tubal. If you are under a lot of stress that can affect your cycle, but if you are going for that many pregnancy tests because of "scares", I would use a second form of birth control.

AFter I had my second son..almost 17yrs ago.I also had my tubes tied. After that my system as been out of wack where as before I knew what day time and minute it was goin to start..okay not to the minute or hour..but you get my point. Now I never know when it will happen.Ive gone 4mnts with nothing..then every 2wks for a while.Ive been to the docs nothing is wrong..nothing has changed. They put me on the birth control for a few mnths to get me straightened out..which works but i refused to stay on it..2mnths after being off the pill Im back to when ever.Ive just learned to live with it.I always have something with me incase I start while Im out.Go to your doctors, make sure nothing is wrong, talk to them and go from there.. you might just have to live with it.Dont run to the store/doctores every mnth from pregnancy test..wait..longer.Start timing your periods to see if there is a routine..good luck
