My 2 yr old daughter loves to go pee in the potty! The problem is that the first time she pooped it hurt and now she is afraid to go. She will hold it unless I take her to the potty and sing to her for about 30 min while she cries. When she has to poop, she tries to hide, crosses her legs and holds it as best as she can. She is so happy when she does go in the potty, but still holds it. she won't go in her pull-ups or underwear, but ends up with "skid marks" from trying to hold it.
I have tried oral medication and suppositories and they get her to go for that day, but the next day it is back to the same problem! HELP!!! Should I take her to the Doc?

What can I do next?

I know this is going to sound a little weird, but I had this problem with my daughter. It wasn't that her stool was hard it was the way she was sitting. When she sat she would sink her bottom toward the water and that pulled her apart like she was ripping apart. I taught her to prop herself up using her arms or lean forward just enough to to keep from falling in and that helped. Also, if you rub the small of their back with downward strokes it helps massage everthing out smoothly. (Works for adults as well)

Yes, do take her to the doctor to rule out any physiological problems that are causing her hard stools. It's not unusual for this to happen when they're just learning. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids - apple juice is good.
The doctor will have lots of other ideas that will be helpful.
Good luck!

I am in the process of potty training my 2 year old son and the best thing I have found is not to put him up on he BIG potty yet, get him a small potty that way he can sit well supported and it is less likely to hurt. As well as the little potty, try lots of apple juice... it works wonders on my son!

my son had the same problem. it took only 1 time for it to hurt when he pooped and he was too scared to do it again. he would hold it for a long time and it really hurt his tummy. i did take him to the doctor about it and the doc just said to give him some kayro syrup and that would also help loosten his bowels to do an easy poop. mineral oil does the trick too. but not too much of either one. the doc says its like a pychological thing and gave me this example...if u have sex and it really hurts then u r less likely to have sex again anytime soon. i totally understood it that way so i hope this helps u out! good luck!!

I had a similar problem with my son. He was too young to tell us what was wrong, but he would just cry, and cry, somethimes all night long. We ended up bringing him to the doctor, and what he told us was that the exit wasn't quite big enough, so what we had to do was purchase rubber gloves, and KY Jelly, and, well... Help open up the hole... Actually, I made my husband do all the work, because it causes quite a bit of pain, apparently, and I couldn't bring myself to make him cry that badly... I would recommend seeing the doctor, but it sounds awfully similar. Good luck.

I had a similar issue with my 4 year old when we were potty training her. She would pee on the potty but refused to poop on the potty and would hold it for days. I took her to the Doctor and she said that when my daughter was ready that she will just do it. She said not to worry, but if she was still not going by a certain time ( i cant remember now) to bring her back. About a week later she was going on her own. It is just a matter of time. She takes her book and "magazines" in with her when she has to go and she goes. I just cant get her to wipe her own bottom.

I'd give her more juice, fruit, water or high fiber foods that will naturally help it to soften. Avoids lots of cheese or milk, rice or bananas b/c that makes it hard. Good luck!
