Please Remind Me the Good Things About Winter

We haven't had a bad winter as in other years and other states.
Still, can't wait to say good bye to the winter.
But it seems that we are going to have to wait a little bit more, so, can you tell me some good things about winter to make the wait less anxious.
One of my favorites: No bugs!

It is just a fun question, but even if I live in Florida, I must tell you if you don't know me, I just move here from NJ, I came here hoping to jump in to my pool and get a tan, is not happening, I also want to plant flowers, is not happening, and last night I still have to sleep with a flanel pajamas and socks.
But again, I don't mean that my winter is awful, like I said up there ^ "We haven't had a bad winter as in other years and other states"

Theresa, I got it, lol, I thought you mean that crickets were a good thing from winter and I thought ok, crickets wouldn't bother much in winter but no that I think they are something "good" about winter, then I got it, took me long, but I finally got it!

Yes, I know about the love bugs, kind of romantic and gross at the same time, lol. I want to plant flowers, I got one earlier and is not doing well =*(

What can I do next?

I have a hard time consoling you as it appears you live in Florida. :)

I am in Minnesota, and although this has been an extremely mild winter, I am used to months and months of below zero weather and multiple feet of snow on the ground, ice everywhere, etc.

Good things about winter...in Minnesota, where it's cold...the smell outside, wrapping up in a comfy blanket, early nights, sledding, skiing, snowmen, snow period, the moonlight on the snow... :)

Hmmm, what is winter like in Orlando? 50s? 60s? Rainy?

I'm used to single digits and a 3 foot base of snow most winters, but this winter it has been in the 30s-50s, mostly dry, and we are LOVING it! It was amazing being able to take our kids to the park to play in the SAND on Christmas Eve. Normally the park would be covered by snow from November-March.

Cold weather means no bugs. :)
And cheap electric bills.
And baking cookies without guilt for running the oven.
Not burning your hands on the steering wheel or seatbelts.
Not worrying your ice cream will melt before you get home from the grocery store.
Not worrying if you have sweat marks on your blouse.
Not having to shock the pool as frequently.
And fresh hot coffee in the morning is always better when it isn't making you sweat. :)

ETA: for all you folks posting about snowflakes and such... I'm not sure you're helping. She's in FLORIDA. They don't GET snow. So now picturesque snow falling, no playing in the snow, none of that. NO SNOW. It is sad for those of us below the "snow belt".... :(

That moment when it stops snowing and there's just a perfect coating of fluffy snow on the branches and ground and it's just silent and still all around. That *moment*, all of 5 seconds before realizing driving is going to SUUUUCK once the snow melts, then refreezes into ice. Other than that, nope, not much that's good about winter.

Snow castles, snowmen, and snow volcanoes. Catching snowflakes on your tongue and watching a 3 year old do the same. White frosting across the entire world around you. But that's winter where I am, where it's very cold tonight and without central heat my house would be about 30 degrees instead of 65. In warmer weather climes, winter is great because there is a break from the unrelenting heat, it's not hurricane season, you can go for a bike ride during the day without being drenched in sweat, picnics for lunch are nice (fewer bugs, less heat), and you have more time to rest. Enjoy being snuggled up and warm in your flannel jammies and let the cooler temps help you appreciate the warm ones to come.

That's what bugs me the most about this winter...it's been too...oddly mild. Talk about an epic fail of a winter (in my opinion)...snuggling, hot cocoa, reading...are way more fun when it's snowy outside. Anyway...one thing we did the other night that was way fun...hubby made a fire outside...we made foil dinners and cooked outside and roasted marshmallows...all bundled up. It was fun :). It felt really good to sit around the fire and warm up our hands. There's the typical...snowmen...sledding...etc. (which my kids would LOVE to do if we'd actually get some decent snow). One thing I know I'll miss when it warms up...is making hot soup :). Don't know that I helped at all...sorry :p.

Not squinting constantly from the migraine sun blast.
Not sweating all the time.
Not having your groceries bake in the car.
Not having to wear yucky summer clothes.
Not having to see everyone else wearing yucky summer clothes.
Not having your driver arm baking and freckling all the time.
Not having to constantly lather up with gross sunblock.
Not having to wear gross swimming suits or go to gross annoying pools for swimming lessons.
Getting to wear awesome boots and cute outfits.
Not having all my energy sapped by the heat.
Loving the gym because my energy isn't sapped.
No bugs.
Our moldy basement doesn't smell when it's this cold.
No lawn mowing.
Gets dark earlier, and I like the dark.
Christmas lights.
Snowmen.
Hot Chocolate.
Pretty scenery.
Cozy pubs, dark beers.
Cozy layers at home to wear.
Wearing clothes longer without washing because they don't stink.
Putting the kids to bed when it's dark.
Exercise shoveling without sweating unlike lawn mowing.
Winter is my season. What can I say. I never want it to end!!! For me there has not been enough snow, and it's ending too soon!

I have bad news for you. Did anyone tell you about the love bugs that come in the spring and summer (twice a year) and cross over central Florida??? Oh you are going to hate it. This winter has been very mild compared to the past two. Last night and Saturday night were cold, but by tomorrow it will be warming up. I love winters here in Florida this is why we moved here, no snow to shovel, ice to scrape and you can wear shorts most of the year.
What are you planting? I have put some new plants into my potted garden (I am not allowed to plant in my back yard). So far my tomato and strawberry plants are fine, but I wrapped them up for the cold nights.

For everyone else: the average temp is around 70, not humid here in the winter and always sunny.

You don't have to mow the lawn as often? I know in some places you don't have to at all.. but here in Houston, yep, we still have to.

Also, layering, I love a cute little sweater/jacket and scarf combo.

I love looking at the stars and they seem clearer and crisper in the winter.
And no mosquitoes or wasps is a definite bonus.
