Pelvic Pain After 2Nd C-section

I delivered my 2nd child nine months ago (by c-section, as was the first one 9 years ago) and have had ongoing pelvic and abdominal issues ever since.

The right side of my surgical incision is still painful at times, and the discomfort is now radiating up my right side towards the belly button. It is not a constant pain ... I am more aware of it whenever I lift or try to sit up after laying flat. The right side of my belly is sore to the touch and feels bruised whenever the baby "stands" on my lap.

My OB indicated I may have a hernia (he could actually feel something on physical exam), so I was sent for a transvaginal ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound, and CT scan. All tests have come back normal, but I still have the pain. A surgeon is now recommending laporoscopy (sp?) to see if it may be scar tissue or adhesions ... but I am not keen on having MORE surgery and am afraid my insurance would balk at it anyway as all my previous tests have come back normal.

Has anyone had similar symptoms and can you offer any advice or suggestions? I had nothing like this after my first c-section.

Thanks in advance.

I didn't have C/S with my two but to me it sounds like the OB and the surgeon are on the right tract with trying to figuer out what is causing the pain. The laporoscopy will be nothing more than them looking around and and taking a biopsy if somthing is found and then closing up the tinny incision. Your insurance shouldn't have a problem since it is medicaly nessasary to find out what it causing you the pain. The previous tests were just not as invasaive. I know the thought of surgery is scary and you should make sure the Dr's you are working with on this know how you feel so you can be well informed as to what is going on.

Good luck to you and I hope they find out soon what is hurting you.

I have the exact same issues. I am 38 years old and had my 2nd C-section 21/2 years ago...my doctor told me that the scar tissue has stuck to the wall of my uterus and that is why it hurts. The uterus is supposed to float around freely. I also thought I had a hernia. It hurts even more when I do exercise or vacuum. My scar is sensitive to touch and sometimes throbs. I've met some woman who have none of these problems after and feel just back to normal. My doctor basically told me to "live with it". I feel your pain.

Hello K.,
I have had 2 c-sections and the last one was 6 years ago. I have a big problem with pelvic pain exspecially when it is that time of the month. My right side is still really sore and tender. I had all the same test done they found nothing. When they went in on the Laporscopic they found I had adhesions... the scar tissue was actually conecting to the scar.Let them take a look... maybe it is nothing but trust me it will be for the best if they find it now verses dealing with it for 6 years. I will pray for you to have guidness and health.

let us know how things go

I had the same kind of pain after my surgery too. In fact I didn't feel "normal" for at least a year. I had several exams up to 6 monthes after my c-section, but nothing was ever found. I was told that because I had a long labor and was almost fully dilated when they did the emergency c-section that I was more likely to have more pain and it take longer to heal because my body was trying to heal from labor and surgery.

Hi K.!
I too have gone through all of the same tests as you, and found everything to be normal. I have an area on the left side of my belly that is almost swollen looking. It is almost directly above my scar from c-section. I feel pain there after standing for several hours or walking for a long time. It was a lot worse when my son was under a year (he's now 18 months). My doc's keep telling me it will go away after weight loss because I have been struggling with this since childbirth. I am slowly loosing the weight but I still have a bulge. They say it's scar tissue but they haven't ever suggested more surgery. If what you do have is like mine, it will get better with time, well for me it's not nearly as painfull as before. Best of luck finding out what the cause might be!

Hi K.,

I haven't had any of the problems you have, but my second c-section has been much harder to deal with than my first ever thought of being. Mine were 18 months apart, 4 years ago. I still have some pain and a lot of numbness. My belly hangs more than I ever imagined it would. I hope you can find some help with your problems. I know it's nothing like I expected.

Good luck!
