Hello again Mama's!

My potty trained 3 year old normally gets up during the night to go potty...but 2-3 times has gone in her bed. We have a waterproof mattress protector on her bed, but it seemed to have gotten through to the mattress...now what? We have been airing it out and Febreezing it...what else can we do?

Many thanks!! S.

I use Folex and the carpet cleaner with an upholstery attachment. I have Hydrogen peroxide for the other biological stains (blood) and that works as well. Just had to do it to the mattress last weekend after a major vomiting episode.

Hi S.,
I don't know that answer to this, but I'd just like to put out a note of caution about Febreeze (or other chemicals). Febreeze can can be dangerous for kids, and children have died from breathing it in. Just remember that whatever chemical you use will be very close to your precious one while she sleeps, so be careful!
Take care. M.

Bleach worked for me also plus I used the spray that you use to get rid of cat urine in carpets and furniture (I don't remember the name of the brand).

Good luck.

for a natural remdey you can try the baking soda/vinegar mixture. Also try Motsenbachers Protein Remover-gets lots of stuff out.

HI S.!
We have used what is called The Gun it is found at pep boys!
It was the only thing that REALLY got cat pee and dog pee out of our cars speaker when my husband left the windows open! Also my Brother in law had to leave his Mattress in my in laws living room and their dogs peed on it everyday for a month and it got that out too! I mean it was set in!!!!!
I love it! It isn't all natural (I wish it was) but it is the only thing that worked for us! I tried Nature's Miracle and it didn't work for us!

Find a product (like Kids'n'Pets), that uses enzymes to break down the uric acids/amonias. You DO have to soak the area first with the solution...and then let it dry...but it completely breaks down biologicals. I typically soak it to double the original diameter of the accident. You can find them in (big) bottles at nearly any pet care store, and at some grocery stores.

I would suggest a livingroom "camp out" while the matress is drying. It usually takes between 12-24 hours.

Nature's Miracle, most definitely - it is made to get rid of even cat's pee and you know what it smells like! No after odor...
As for tantrums... a frustrating experience for me... but as far as the experts say... a necessary one to establish their own selves... patience unfortunately does not come in pill form. Shall pass? ;)

Maybe try Nature's Miracle pet odor remover available in pet stores, such as Pectco.

Nature's Miracle will do the trick - you can buy it at Petco ...our vet clinic sells it too. Just pour on the area where the pee is and let it dry. Works wonders.

Fabreeze is toxic. I would get a new mattress. In the future, sunshine is the best -- drag it out on the porch and let the sun disinfect & deodorize.

try vinegar, straight. Or with baking soda. Scrub, then vacuum it when dry. It will smell like vinegar for awhile... but it will go away.

Urine, is "sterile." Per our Pediatrician. So no worries. Its just the smell, yellow spot.

A 3 yr. old will still have accidents. It's normal. Through 5 yrs. old and even 7 years old, they still have night time accidents. Try to get a better waterproof pad... I like the "quilted" types. That's what I have. It contains the wetness better. I put it right under the child, not under the fitted sheet. Easier to clean that way. I got my waterproof bed pads from www.amazon.com Use the search word "waterproof crib pads" or waterproof mattress pads. Or, just get a pad that will fit over the entire mattress, like a fitted sheet.
There are all different qualities/types.

Hope this helps!
S.

I mix bleach and water and spray on the mattress. Then, leave the windows open to air it out before covering it back up, usually 2 days is better.

#1 I'd buy a new water proof matress cover. Try taking white vinegar dilute it then take a cloth dampned with this mixture & go over the soiled area. Try repeating this a couple of times & see it it helps. If not you may have to shampoo. Just remember if you have to shampoo it the heavier you wet the area the more it will spread the soiled area & also take longer to dry.

Isopropyl alcohol otherwise known as rubbing alcohol. Pour it on the mattress....not too much, ut just enough. We;ve uses Mother's Little Miracle and love it, but it is hard to find. We also have our carpt cleaner clean the mattress.
