Can someone please suggest a good caring dentist for my 5 year old around Northridge area? I have heard several horror stories from friends about a few pediatric dentists. So would need references from other moms.

I took her to our regular dentist and she was scared and refused to get her teeth cleaned. :(

Help please!!

What can I do next?

My two young girls (9 & 6) go to Dr. Lao. He is a family dentist and is so kind and gentle. My girls really like him. His staff is also absolutely lovely. Here is his info:

Dr. Lao
Mid Valley Dental
8815 Reseda Blvd.
Northridge
###-###-####

What helped me when it was time to bring my girls to the dentist was *I* went to the dentist and let them sit on my lap and watch up close. Then I made their appt. for about a week later. We had time to talk about it and answer some questions. They got to see that nothing the hygienist or dentist did hurt me in any way.

Good luck!!

I don't live in your area, so I can't suggest anyone. However, when it was close to my daughter's dental visit, I brought several books about going to the dentist--Dora visits the Dentist, The Bearstein Bears, etc. We talked about what would happen at the appointment, reiterated that it wouldnt hurt, the dentist just wanted a peek at her teeth to make sure they were growing healthy, talked about how the hygienist was just going to make sure her teeth were extra clean. There might have been a special reward at home if she cooperated with the dentist. And I gave her a bit of Tylonal beforehand, just in case her mouth was sensitive.

She doesn't have any dental fear... I think if you prepare her for it and motivate her to cooperate, she'll get over her fears. Good luck!

If you are willing to travel a shortance to Orange, contact Dr. Brostoff. He was amazing with my kids when they were young...I then recommended him to my best friend for her son and she was equally thrilled! I lived in Tustin Ranch at the time and I felt like it was not too far at all for the care my babies received.

Hello,
We really like our dentist, she's located in West Hills, not too far from Northridge. See http://www.pediatricdentistryandorthodontics.com/ to check the company out.

I would check with the insurance company for a referral. They will have a list and that way you know you're insurance is going to cover the visit.

BTW, a family dentist is nothing like a Pediatric Dentist. A pediatric dentist is going to spend time with your child and play, tease them to get them to smile, never pressure them, make it fun and enjoyable. They may not even do an exam the first time. They will see how it goes. They should also have practice rights at local hospitals since most of them put the kdis to sleep to do extensive work. That way you'll know they are fully great. Also, they should use white filling material. Most pediatric dentists are going to do stuff that will be for the kids best interest and giving other kids something to be teased about, silver teeth, is not something they do.

Keep looking, we travel twice a year 125 miles each way, to go to the best pediatric dentist in the world! I wish he would see me.

I am in West Hills and have been taking my children (now 16 & 11) to Dr. Jill Lasky on Ventura Blvd. in Woodland Hills ###-###-#### since they were both probably about 4 years old. It is a family business. The father - Martin Lasky started it and now the son, Michael Lasky and his wife, Jill are the main dentists. It is all for kids. In the beginning you go in a private room and she can even sit on your lap (my son did!) They have little games and prizes when the kids are done. They are very down to earth and have their own little ones so they understand kids. Good Luck.
