Parenting Magazines

I am trying to decide on a parenting magazine to buy. I have a choice of either Parents or Parenting (early years or school years). I've never really looked in to either one, but my friends daughter is doing a magazine fundraiser so I thought I'd give one of them a try. Anyone have a preference for either one and why? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I love Parents magazine. I don't get it anymore, but I used to when I first became a mom and it was just great.

buy MOTHERING. it is by far the best and is not controlled by the ads in the magazine.

check it out online at mothering.com.

good luck!

I prefer Parents.
I just like it better... informative.... more topics and ages and wider range of interesting USEFUL stuff.
You can check out their website too.

Go to the library and look at several issues. To me, once you've read two or three issues, you've read 90% of anything they will publish. If you have extra money to throw away, you might as well help your friend's daughter.

Good luck to you and yours.

I actually get both of the magazines and prefer "Parents." It just seems to cover more topics that concern me since I have children in both the "early" and "school years." I still really enjoy both of them but, "Parents" is my favorite.

Hi Mama-
I have not read Parenting, but a lady that I work with gets PARENT here at the office, and man, I love that thing! It's got great ideas for families on spending time, preparing for discipline, talks, and things to look for in your child. Plus, there are some all around good times like crafts, games, recipes, etc. It was one of those that I picked up and thought, "wow, what a great magazine!" Usually you pick one up and flip through it and maybe, if you are lucky, 1/4 of the issue is worth reading (some magazines are awesome, some are really terrible). This one I thought was great, and without looking at Parenting, I would purchase PARENT. However, do look at other mommy's replies. They may have had an equally amazing result with Parenting. My vote's on Parent.
Good luck!

I love Parents magazine, it always seems to have great tips on how to do things better with my toddler. I am sure the other one is just fine but I just find Parents mag better.

I'd have to agree with Staci. I also subscribe to both, but I do like Parents better. They do cover more things. They just give you a wide range of info.

Why don't you pop into your pediatrician's office/OB/GYN's office and check out their magazine selections in the waiting area. They usually have some of the more recent issues of several different parenting style mags. You could see which one seems to fit YOU best. Or stop in at your local library... ours keeps all the most recent issues of periodicals out just waiting for someone to pick them up and peruse....
