Opinions on the Women's Group on Amberly Drive, Please

I'm new to this group and am looking for an Obsetrician for the delivery of my first child. I was pregnant in January of this year and made an appointment with The Women's Group on Ameberly Drive but before I made it to the 8 week mark, I had what the OB Nurse called a chemical pregnancy. I never saw a doctor, only the OB Nurse who was very uncaring and unsupportive to what I was going through. I had to see her twice since I needed the RH Neg. shot of rhogam due to my blood type & both times she was very cold towards me and never, not once, asked how I was physically feeling (which I found odd for someone who is supposed to be providing health care). She, basically, acted like I was having my period. Still, I continue to read wonderful reviews about this doctor's group and wonder if I judged too quickly. I'd really like to see an all female group, but that former experience leaves me hesitant to go back to them with my current pregnancy. If I do go back, will I need to deal with this OB Nurse a lot? I really didn't like her but don't want to judge the doctors based soley on one employee.....can anyone give me feedback on your experience with this office please? (Thanks in advance & sorry for being so wordy!)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond! I heard Dr.Irani was fantastic from a co-worder as well (his wife delivered her two sons with Dr. Irani). That combined with Melanie's nicely detailed reference clinched it for me......I just booked my appointment with them for the 17th and feel happy to have one of the MANY baby related decisions solidly handled! Thanks!!!!

Hi E..

Sorry to hear about your experience. I don't know if you are able and willing to try a different dr but I love Insignia Care for Women. It is right next to/behind the Cracker Barrell on Bearss and Bruce B Downs. I liked all the dr's I saw but really loved Dr Irani. She is very personable and never made me have that uncomfortable feeling like some dr's do. She even stayed 4 hours past the time she was suppose to leave to deliver my son. Just thought I would share this with you because it is really hard to find a dr you truly love and trust.

Hi E.,

I have been with the Women's Group in South Tampa (off Habana) for nearly 10 years. I would never consider going to another OB/GYN. My oldest is now almost 10 and Dr. Butler delivered her. I also have a one year old who was delivered by another doctor within that office. During my prenatal visits, I went to the office on Amberly Drive. I was very unimpressed with the bedside manner of the female doctor and the nurse practitioner. The doctor was abrupt and didn't really even wait for me to ask any questions. I can only assume she thought that since I already had a daughter, I knew it all. I elected not to schedule any appts with that office afterward. The office off Habana is wonderful. The staff is kind and very helpful and I highly reccomend them to anyone looking for an OB/GYN. Good luck!

I just had my second child and I used the Woman's Group. I had the same experience with the nurse prac. (Marilyn Plattner) She was awful! Like I said, I had already had a previous child, so I wasn't new to pregnancy. She mad me feel like an idiot. My second pregnancy was really different from the first, so I had a lot of questions and she just wasn't kind at all.

That being said, I loved the doctors! Dr. Barriero was wonderful. I had some complications and she was wonderful! And Dr. Cohen from the MLK office delivered my second girl and was fantastic!

For the most part, you see the doctors for all SCHEDULED appointments. The only time you should see the nurse is for unscheduled (emergency) visits and the first appointment.

I have to agree with you about being confused with this office. I just had my annual yesterday (the baby is 6 mo. now) and I had to wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes while the lab techs were having a party. Literally, a baby shower!!! I don't understand why they chose to do it then and not after hours, but I was pissed! The whole appointment took 1 1/2 hours, only 15 minutes seeing the nurse prac. for the actual "annual exam"

Anyways, I hope this helps!

E.,

I have been a patient at the Women's Group for many years (probably 6 or 7) and have been extremely impressed with their care. I have had one or two bad experiences over the years, but overall, I love the fact that it is an all-female practice, and the only people I've ever even disliked, are gone. All in all, I would still recommend their group without hestitation. Remember, they also have an office on MLK, so if you feel more comfortable going there, you might want to give it a try. I had my son two years ago (Madelyn Butler was the MD on call) and although she is a little "direct" sometimes in her communication style, I absolutely trust her and think she is a wonderful doctor.

HTH. Feel free to message me if you need any additional info.

I have a close friend who lives in that area and goes to those doctors. She said it's the Tampa Palms area, and she recommends you see Dr. Wahba from that group but that they are all great. She is I believe in her sixth month of pregnancy.

I have 2 children (4 & 2) and The Women's Group is who delivered both. I only saw the OB nurse once during my appointments with my first child and never saw her with the second. I LOVE the doctors there & trusted them completely with the delivery of both of my children.

It's of course up to you if you decide to change OB/GYN's, but I know I've only had really good experiences with the doctors there and just wanted to share that with you.

Jan :)
