Okay, What's Going On?

I know that you ladies are not doctors, but you are women so I am hoping you will have some experience or insight on this matter.

I stopped using the birth control patch on August 12 because hubby and are going to try to have another baby here soon. We have had sex once between then and now but he used a condom (Doctor suggested waiting a month after coming off birth control to get it all out of my system). I had a normal period immediately after taking off the patch. Now this "period" came right on time... But I'm not sure if it's really my period. It's a light dark brown discharge. It's enough where I have to wear a pad, but just barely. I normally have some brownish discharge at the beginning and at the end of my period, so no big deal. Well, it's been brown discharge this whole week! Yesterday there was some red blood but only for about 3 hours and it was still very light. Then it went back to brown discharge. Now it's lightening up like it's going to stop. Was this my period for this month or should I expect more? I highly highly doubt that I am pregnant, so I don't feel the need to buy a pregnancy test. I'm just curious as to what this is. Is it normal after coming off of the birth control patch? Is this my period? If not, will my cycle be all screwed up this month so that I won't be able to conceive?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

2GirlsAllMine - No, I actually waited until it was time to for my period to come off the patch so that my cycle wouldn't be messed up. I also have an amazing Dr who does her clinics in Rush City and Pine City, but delivers at Fairview Wyoming. Dr. Van Eck... Best doctor I have ever had. Love her! :)

Hold on... I'm still processing the fact that you only had sex ONCE in the past month. My god, I would be climbing the walls...

I would GUESS that you went off the patch at a random time....and therefore you body said, "Oh, it's period time....bring it." But, because you hadn't really cycled correctly when you took it off, there wasn't the regular amount to shed. Throwing your body a curve ball will cause your body to throw you one back.

I'd wait it out and start charting everything so you can figure out what your natural cycle is....to start TTC again.

I see you are in Chisago City. I used to live in Shafer and Forest Lake. I had the BEST OB I've ever been to (have moved around the country several times). Her name is Dr. Becker at the Fairview Clinic in Wyoming. She is the reason I have two children after trying for 6 years! No kidding. GL!

If it was the normal time for your period I would count it as your period.

Hmm, well, I would just take a test 'just in case'.

I'd test, personally. I had a subchorionic hemorrhage that sounded a lot like that. Dr saw both the hemmorhage and DD around 7 weeks along.

The same thing happened to me when I came off birth control. I had a week of brown discharge but never any true bleeding. My doctor told me it was the hormones from the b/c and the reason it was brown is b/c it was old blood. I was told not to worry, I didn't and then I had a normal (bleeding) period the following month. Best of luck, I would say follow trough with your plan for conception this month and just count this as your period!
