My son reciently spilled something on his shirt, and even after I spot treated the shirt and washed it. It still has a darker spot where the oil was. and I can't get it out. I have one on one of my shirts from a salad dressing. Any ideas??

What can I do next?

J.,
Try washing the shirt with a can of regular Coca Cola. I was once married to a mechanic and had to remove oil stains on a regular basis and this usually works. Also you could try the Orange Goop found in the auto dept at Walmart. I have not tried that, but have heard that it works great!!

About the best stain remover out there is plain blkue dawn dishwashing liquid. It has a natural iol and grease cutter that taskes out almost every protein or oil based stain there is. Just put a little on the stain, rub it in and let it set for a few minutes then wash as usual. I use dawn on all of my stains and on my kid's clothes as well and it always works.

Try OxiClean. For really bad spots I wet the stained area with water and sprinkly some Oxiclean powder on the stain then gently rub in with my finger. I buy this stuff at Costco now because I use it so much for stain removal!

I have always used a bar of ivory soap. I keep it dry and rub it on the oil spot before I throw it in the washer. I make sure and rub a lot on it and it works everytime.

OXY CLEAN! This is the best stuff for almost any stains, but especially oil. Make a large bowl of hot water and one scoop of oxy clean and let the shirt soak for at least half hour, then wash as normal. I swear by this stuff for any stain in my kids clothes. I almost always miss at least one stain until after it has been set by the dryer and oxy clean still works 99% of the time. Wal mart has the small tub for about $3.

Try Dawn dishwashing soap. Let it soak in for a few days, then rinse out and wash normally. I have also had good luck in a hot water sinkful with about 4 scoops of Oxy Clean. Let it sit for a few days, then wash normally. Good luck!

Hi J.,
From experience with oil stains (my husband is a mechanic), we always use Coke. Just pour an 8 oz can in with the wash and it comes out. Good Luck!

In the automotive department there is a product called GOOP...white container has a pic of clothes on a clothesline on top of the container, (just rub the product into the stain let it set a few minutes and wash) my daughter & I both had oil soaked on the bottom of our jeans leg from a leak on our 3-wheeler, anyway my mom washed them, the stain didn't come out, brought the clothes home bought the GOOP and it got it ALL the first time...really works wonders, its cheap and you can't beat it, i'm using it now for all my stains...buy it at wal-mart....good luck!!!

I always take a small toothbrush adn gently work in some dishsoap, the liquid kind, and let it sit a bit before washing. This works most of the time for me, it may take one or two times to get it out if it is really set in though.
Good luck!

Scrub the spot with Dawn dishwashing detergent, then soak it in a sink with a little Dawn and a pinch of your laundry detergent and mix it around every 1/2 hr. or so for a few hrs. Wash as normal. Hopefully you haven't put either shirt in the dryer as that usually sets the stain for good. Good luck!

I use simple green i buy it @ lowes b/c you can get a gal for the same as a 1/2 gal @ walmart its around $8 mix it 1/2 & 1/2 with water i use it on every thing it also has gotten out the yellow puke stains from clothes from yardsales and ive never had a problem with it ruining fabrics ALSO GOOD FOR grease from my husbands work clothes and even blood or choc milk if the stain has been there through a washing i recommend using it strait concentrate and let it sit untill it dries then wash it it should come out. When i use it if my kids take off something that is really dirty or looks as if it is going to be stained i spray it down and leave it untill im ready to wash it and every thing usually comes out.i hope this will be helpful to you or any one reading this. Happy washing and good luck!!!
