Oh the Itch!

My daughter is over ten months old and my c-section scar still itches like crazy! Has any one else had this problem? My OB told me a few months ago that this was normal but it hasn't gone away. I'd love to find something to alleviate it so I don't catch myself unconsciously scratching near my goodies in public! haha. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I had a section with my son 4 years ago and I remember the itching. It itched for a LONG time! I don't remember how long but it seemed like forever.

You are VERY normal with the itching still occurring after 10 months. I had to have two un-planned c-sections (9 years and 4.5 years ago) and I hate to tell you this, but there are times that it STILL itches.....you have millions of nerves that are healing themselves back together. That is what i am told is causing the itching. I put Shea Butter from Bath & Body Works on mine when the itching occurs and it does help a bit. It's just more of an annoyance than anything, but rest assured you are probably healing just fine and I would take it as a good sign! Good Luck!

I have not only a c-section scar but I have had skin issues since the day I was born. First, if you do not have one, buy a removeable shower head! Decent ones go for about $30 at the store. Make sure you clean it real well, then right after your shower, when it is really itching put some hydrocortisone on it then baby powder (the unscented kind!). The hydrocortisone will keep the itching down and the powder will keep it dry. Then once you have the itching under control or for days that it is not that bad, use Eucerin Calming Creme (white tube with navy cap) and the powder. The calming creme should help keep the itching at bay once you have it under control. My scar (now 2yrs old) still itches once in a while, still feels numb at times, and will even hurt especially when it is real humid. Hope this helps!

Hi. I've had two c-sections and it still itches and is numb. I would try putting some anti-fungal on it. A lot of the time you can get yeast around the scar. Hope this helps.

Hi L.,

My daughter is 14 months old. My c-section scar still itches, not as bad, but still I find that on some days it is terrible. I talked to my doctor and friends and everyone tells me this is normal and some friends say it never goes away. I currently am using cocoa butter lotion on my scar. I lather it on thick in the morning and so far it seems to help.

I love Gold Bond for itching that is the only thing that worked for me. It numbs the area. I tried everything for the itch until I found Gold Bond. I recommend it to everyone. You can get it anywhere (Walgreens, Walmart, Target).

I'm no expert but after two c-sections, I am amazed at how long it takes to heal. I finally got feeling back in my abdomen when my first son was 18 months old and now my second is 11 months old and I still swell, the incision gets red when I overdo it, and I have numbness at the site at times. I have friends who also had c-sections within a few weeks of mine and had none of that but I think some people heal slower than others and build up more scar tissue than others.

What really helps me is "working out" my scar after a shower or bath. A physical therapist recommended that I stretch my scar by gently rubbing it in a circular motion and gently stretching it to help release some of the built up scar tissue. This gave me the heebie-geebie's at first but after I had my c-section, my doctor commented on how nicely I healed from the first c-section and how little scar tissue I had and the itching and pain started to slowly alleviate. I also ended up seeing the physical therapist for a time and she used an ultrasound machine to help break up the scar tissue. If it continues to bother you, as your Dr. for a script for a good women's PT. Good luck!!!!

Hey L. congrats on the baby. I had trouble with that my first child and I just kept on putting a and D oitment on it and sometimes I would put Shea butter from the Body Shop If you need some and would like to try it let me know cause I sell the products from home with The Body Shop at Home. It is 20 dollars for the big tub and 10 for the little one but it lasts for a long time, and if your child ends up with ezeama it is the best stuff that I have used for that. Let me know if I can help you.
