Okay first of all is this an existing thing? no hormones? then how does it work? i was on the pill after i had my daughter and hated it! remembering to take a pill everyday and how it messed with my period if i missed just one. since I'm not planning on children for a while this seems ideal BUT i don't want to have trouble getting pregnant when i want to because i had been on BC for an extended time. if anyone has this or knows anything about it please let me know...

As the other two posts stated, the hormone free iud is paragard. Your periods may be heavier and longer but that also may change after your body adjusts to it.
Yes there is. It is called the copper iud. AS long as you are not allergic to copper, in a momogamous relationship and had a child you can get one. I had one for 8 years and removed it and got pregnant and gave birth again in July 2009. I loved it, never had to think about birth control.

There IS a such thing. The Paraguard is an IUD that is copper with no hormones. You can google it. There is also the Mirena IUD which does have small doses of progesterone I believe. I am one of the few who got pregnant with the Paraguard. I LOVED It until that happened:) It was meant to be though for sure and I know have a happy, healthy five year old. I am debating getting another one (loved it that much). I also had the Mirena but for me it just did not agree with my body and after 10 months I had it removed. I got pregnant after the Mirena too with no issues. I have a lot of friends though that have the Mirena and love it and have had no problems getting pregnant. Good luck with your decision.
I do have the paraguard IUD and It has been wonderful I dont like the hormones the pills and shots give me and I have been on this birth control for 2 years now it lasts up to 10 years and I have never had any problems or complications with it I get my period right on time every month (it doesnt hinder your period or make it any different) for me at least your doctor has more information.
I am not sure about the no-hormone IUD but I have Mirena and love it. I used to have RAELLY heavy and REALLY painful periods (to the point i was out of work 3 days every month because I couldn't move.) I've only had Mirena 2 months but my period is light - pain-free and i LOVE IT. My OB said that it is more effective at preventing pregnancy than having your tubes tied, and once it is out, you're able to get pregnant. I've felt no side effects of the hormones because it is so light. Birth control always either slowed my period or my cramps, but never both. Mirena is a miracle worker for me! Good luck to you!
I hated the paraguard. My periods were basically non-stop, heavy and I had bad cramps. I had it pulled after a year and went with the MIrena IUD. My periods are now regular and the cramps not as bad. I was later told that if you have a history of heavy or long periods, the paraguard is not for you because it makes them worse.
