Anyone have ideas for New Years Eve? or New Years Day?
So far I have come up with movies and dinner new years eve. Not sure what to do for new years day, but I know I want it to be focused on what we will be expecting this coming new year. Maybe changes we all want to make or giving our best efforts.
What about you?

What can I do next?

We love a family NYE - we usually make it a game night too, and have over another family who can either walk home or stay the night. We toast the NY at 9pm with the kids (watching the live ball drop) and bang pots and pans on the back deck.

Re the next day, we also try to spend that day as we want to spend the new year. One idea, depending on your kids' ages, is to make a garland of hopes. Just like the paper garlands we made for xmas as kids, you take single strips of paper. Write on it a dream/hope/resolution and then make a link out of it....put all the family dreams together to form a garland that you can string up for a while and then put away to review next year or mid-year. We do it at Christmas with the names of people we love and are thinking about.

Hi,
We write out our goals for 2010 and we encourage the children to write out goals about how to treat others as well as improving in certain areas of their lives. Then I hang it above their desk where they do homework and they are reminded throughout the year about their goals and it comes up in discussions as conflict come up during the year. Eventually it goes in their scrapbook albums which is fun to see the goals changing from year to year.
Happy New Year to you!

We are having a silly string war at midnight outside. Nothing beats it!

Happy New Year! Our family is going bowling with 6 other families tonight. Our local bowling alley has a special-- "Rock'n Bowling" at $2 a game and shoes are free. They have like a disco ball and neon lights and the rest of the place is dark. We did it last year and had so much fun. Afterwards, there are fireworks at the local resort. Have fun!

We do a family hike on new year's day. We also prune the roses.
Although...the kids are now teenagers and don't like these ideas anymore..but, now they are tradition.

So... it is good to pick something and stick with it each year while they kids are young.

Happy new year!
