I just moved to Allen from Utah. I don't know much about the area, so any information on doctors, activities and anything else would be appreciated! My son is very active and loves playing with other kids. He loved preschool, so if anyone has information on a good program in the area, that would be helpful.

What can I do next?

Hi S. (and family)!

Welcome to Texas! How long have you all been here?
P.S. - I'm sure you already know, but just in case you don't... Allen has a great OUTLET Mall/OUTLET stores right off of I-75. Great stores!

Well, my name is J. and I too have an almost 3 year old son. There's a lot to do in the metroplex. Allen is a great city, we looked at living there, but now live in Richardson (15-20 min. south of you).

Anyway, you asked about some preschool information and I actually work for Primrose Schools (academic based preschool). I love it and believe in it strongly. My son attends too and is thriving!! There is a Primrose in Allen and even though I don't know too much about their particular school, I have met Bethany (the Director) and the owner and they seem VERY nice! If you are interested you can check out the school's web site at www.primroseschools.com. There is a school locator on the site and it'll let you pick a school via city and you can see picts. of the actual school. Or you can call 1-800-Primrose, put in your zip code and it will give you the closest one.

I work in one of the schools in McKinney right now and if I can be a resource for you I'd enjoy talking with you. There are quite a few private pre-schools in the metroplex, I just happen to think Primrose is "above the rest" so to speak. But, research is good. You have to find a right fit for you and your son. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about Primrose our school e-mail is ____@____.com.

There will be a lot of fun things happening around the metroplex for the holidays so check your local magazines (a lot of the preschools will have free magazines for their city, if you go a tour I'm sure you could ask to take one or two) and newspapers for events!! The Dallas Child magazine is a great one and it has monthly events broken down for you day by day. There is also a great newspaper guide called "Collin County Kids: A Family Guide to Events, Activities and Everything Collin County". It's great and has informative articles too. The Primrose Schools get both of the magazines.

Anyway, I know how it feels to move to a new place knowing no one and nothing about the area. I moved here from Florida 8 years ago and didn't know a soul. Met my husband here and have been here ever since. I love Texas. Miss the beaches, but love Texas.

Here are some surrounding cities so you can become familiar with their names... Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Richardson, Grapevine, Coppell, Wylie, Murphy, and of course Dallas.

Hope this little bit of information will lead you to other things and I also hope it will provide you with just a glimpse of what you will come to know. : ) Take care and God Bless you!

Cheers,
J. B.

S., I also have a 3 year old girl (her name is S. :) and another little girl, Sophie, who is about to turn 1. I'm part of a playgroup in Collin County that is lots of fun. We have playdates a couple of times a week and once a month we have moms night out. If you think you'd be interested in something like that, email me at ____@____.com for doctors, we have a WONDERFUL pediatrician in Plano named Miranda Ramirez. Someone else mentioned Dr. Bass for OB/GYN. She is my sister-in-law's doc, and while she really likes her, she waits FOREVER at her appts. My OB/GYN is also good - Deanah Jibril at Presbyterian of Plano.

I live in Allen, and our pediatrician is in Plano (Dr. Scott Katz w/ Plano Pediatrics). Our dentist is Dr. Bob Koons (Masters Hand Dental), and my family doctor is Kevin Joyner (here in Allen at the hospital). My ob/gyn is Annie Bass in Plaono. I would recommend all of them, though visits to Dr. Bass take forever--she's great, though! Also, as for preschool, if you like church programs, my soon-to-be 3 year old daughter is in First Steps at First Baptist Church, McKinney. It's a great program on M/W, and they have First Learning on T/Th. The church is great in general (we go there), and I'd love to tell you more about it if you're interested.

Welcome. I have a 3 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. Our kid dentist is Dr. Lisi and my dentist is Dr. Mason, both in Allen near the library. Our ped. is in Plano at Medical Center of Plano. The group is Pediatric Place and we see Dr. Darby. She's very nice. There are 4 or 5 doctors there to choose from. My ob/gyn is Dr. Keith Reisler and he's at Medical Center of Plano but moving in January to Presby Plano.
My son goes to Small Blessings at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church on Highway5 here in Allen. I know they have an opening in my son's M/W class. Great school and loving teachers and directors. If you are interested, contact me here and I'll give you the information.
I'd love to meet for a play date. Celebration Park is a fun place, though can be crazy in the summer. There are lots of parks all over Allen.
If you exercise you might be interested in SeeMommyRun.org. There are several chapters in Allen. You exercise (run/walk) with your kid in a stroller then at the end the kids play on the playground and you get to socialize. There's all the Mom's Club and Early Childhood PTA in the area too.
