Need Suggestions for Monitor to Cover Two Separate Nurseries.

I have a 20 month old with twins on the way in the next two weeks or so (I know... life is about to get REALLY exciting!). We have the Sony Babycall monitor for our daughter's room and love it but are now looking for a new monitor that might scan between her room and the twins' room across the hall. I don't want one with two channels that I have to flip between manually but rather would like something that does it automatically. A friend of mine used to have one that scanned three different rooms, but apparently it's no longer made. The worst case scenario, I guess, would be just to buy a second one like the monitor we already have, but then we might have to deal with interference. Anyone have any experience with a great monitor like the one I'm looking for?

I can't remember which monitors we had, but when we had both of them on, we had very bad static. We tried cahnging the channels and nothing worked. I finally ended up taking the monitor out of my sons (22 months) room. It was so loud I couldn't sleep. You know how it goes when you are a mom, any little sound wakes you up. Just something to think about.

Our daughter was 2 1/2 when our twin boys were born and we use the Graco iMonitor Duo Baby and it's pretty good - we bought it on clearance, and I think the batteries weren't charged properly as they don't last long away from the base, but just bought replacement battery packs ($38 for two packs) and are making sure to charge each for 12 hours on the base before using it. The options were very limited, but we are happy with it. here is a link:

On another note, you could move the monitor out of your older child's room and just continue to use the one you have. We chose not to do this and have been glad as our older daughter has woke up sick in the middle of the night and we were able to hear her and get to her right away.

Good luck with the twins ! You are in for quite a ride!!!

I placed my monitor in the hallway between the 2 doors and it was able to pickup noise from either room. Worth a try if your rooms are close together.

Does your 20 month old REALLY need a monitor in her room? It would save you a lot of trouble to just switch rooms. Also, I can put ONE monitor in the hallway or in the bathroom across from our kids rooms and still hear all 3 kiddos when I'm outside. Just a thought...

Great question and anxious to see responses as my deaf son-in-law and hearing impaired daughter are expecting their 2nd child in a month and have the same concerns.

It's been a while since I needed a monitor but our kids rooms were next to each other so I had it out in the hall between their rooms and I could hear them. We tried 2 monitors for one night. Then my neighbor told me she could hear us reading our bedtime stories. That stopped us using 2 different monitors!

Congratulations! Sounds familiar! I have a 2 1/2 yr old and 8 mo old B/G twins. What a joy! We stumbled upon a Summer brand video monitor and LOVE it! You do have to buy an extra monitor and toggle between channels A&B, but its worth it to be able to see the kids. And seeing the 2 yr old is hysterical. We never knew what trouble he got into and what games he played after we put him to bed at night! I pushed the twins cribs together so they were both covered in the video monitor. The camera isn't very wide angle. I know you didn't ask about a video monitor, but we love ours. Also, the on/off switch broke last week (I guess we use it A LOT) and they are mailing us a brand new TV monitor for free - no receipts, return boxes, etc. Just gave them the serial number off the bottom of the monitor. Gotta love it!

Like another mom suggested, I highly recommend the Summer brand video monitors. They make a scanning model with 2 video cameras and one small, TV-like monitor, (http://www.shopwiki.com/_Summer+Infant+Dual+Scanning+Vide.... As I already had the hand-held video monitor from my first munchkin, I bought a second one on ebay and keep the munchkins on separate channels. The interference is minimal as I have them on opposite sides of the house. Having a video monitor is a blast - the things they do are hilarious. Not to mention you can tell if it is a "I'm screaming because my foot is stuck in the crib" yell or just a nasty fit. Congrats and best of luck!
