I registered for a baby monitor that has gotten horrible reviews. Could you share with me which baby monitor is by far the best. Our house is aprox. 2000 sq. ft. and there is a baby that lives in front of us and behind our house also. I don't want us hearing them on our monitor or them hearing us. We do not have wireless internet but may consider it. The sales lady says that matters.

I highly recommend Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor as well. Total peace of mind. We haven't had any problems with it. It is a little pricey, but worth it.

I received the Summer video monitor. It is the greatest! There is interferance very rarely but I think that will happen with any monitor.

I also highly recommend the Angel Care monitor. We also had a preemie, so it put our mind at ease, but it is great for any parent, as we all worry about SIDS! We haven't ever had any problems with it -- our next door neighbors also had one, and we just kept ours on a different channel so we didn't get interference. I'm still using it after 3 years --I removed the motion sensor and just use it for the audio!

I didn't register for the monitor I actually got and now use but I have the Summer Video Monitor. My good friend got it for me from Babies R Us and I absolutely LOVE IT! Trust me, you will want to SEE and HEAR your baby and I think this monitor is the best one hands down. It's a little pricey ($179 at Babies R Us) but it's definitely worth it. I registered for one without the video, but I returned it after talking to my friend and hearing how she loved hers and still use it for her daughter even though she's well into toddlerhood. My son is 11 months old, and it's such a wonderful thing to be able to see him during naps and at bedtime so I don't worry that he's not absolutely safe in his crib. If I didn't have this monitor, I know I'd be in his room on and off all night long just to "check on him". Good luck in your baby monitor search.

We use the Angel Care monitor for a few reasons. 1 with our older child we had the safety first and heard parents around us screaming at their child. 2 it has the apnea pad that goes in the crib and senses breathing and will set off an alarm if there is no movement/breathing for 20 secs. This monitor is about $100 but totally worth it, we have not had any interference with other monitors, we have had some false alarms. My daughter would roll to the corner or side of the crib where the monitor could not sense her, but I would rather false alrms than none at all. My niece is now using one since her daughter stopped breathing, but is ok now. It comes with 2 parent monitors so you can have one in the bedroom and 1 in the living room, and a normal sounds monitor. Once baby is old enough you can just use the sounds part without the pad. We currently have a hole in the wall between the 2 kids rooms, and are able to monitor both with the 1 monitor.

do you plan on co-sleeping? if so, you may not need a monitor for quite some time, or even at all. i registered for one but never got it--still haven't needed to buy one, nor do i see a reason to do so. if the baby sleeps in your bed or in your room, you definitely won't need one. even when we leave our baby to sleep in a separate room, we hear every little noise she makes, and we also have aprox 2000 sq feet in our home. just something to consider before you or someone else spends the cash!

I did alot of research that said don't buy the mobicam but it was the only real wireless one I thought was reasonably priced so I bought it. It works fine. I use it for hottubbing with hubby and going to friends houses were I would not enjoy myself if I didn't know my little one was ok without checking on her every ten minutes. We even took it on vacation were we are just outside but couldn't see her and it saved my sanity. BTW we have wireless network and major servers and have no issues. There is some little static now and again but the picture is great otherwise. Ok the one bad thing...It uses up barreries fast. It does come with ac plugs though so you don't have to use batteries. For $99 at walmart you can't beat it. JMTC buy the one you want- it can be taken back.

We were worried about the same issue and purchased a digital monitor made by Graco. Big mistake. That is probably the one you are referring to. I resorted back to my old style Graco 900MHz with 2 receivers. I did end up hearing my neighbors on one channel, but didn't when I switched to the other channel. I don't think anyone around us could hear us, but I'm not sure. No one ever said anything that led me to believe they could hear us. i hope you find something that fits your needs.

We have wireless internet, plus my husband keeps his blackberry turned on all the time. We had lots of static and clicking with our first two monitors, and then finally we got the Sony First Call. It worked great, with no static.

I highly recommend the Angelcare monitor. It is so clear that you can hear when your baby breathes. If a baby stops breathing an alarm goes off. I was very scared of SIDS and this monitor made me feel at ease. I still use it with my 3 year old and my 1 year old.

I did huge amount of useless research on this subject and we settled on the summer handheld video monitor and it has been great. We also have babies in front of and behind us and I will tell you that if we switch channels you can see their babies too, but we know our neighbors and talked to them about it and it really isn't a big deal. You either see an empty crib, or a sleeping baby. You have a very restricted view and we don't keep our monitor on unless our son is asleep. The reason I went with them is the customer service reviews and how quickly they respond and replace the product if needed.
I hope this helps good luck!

I, too, love our Summer Day & Night Handheld Video Monitor. Having the video and audio capability is great.

I also had the Angelcare monitor and actually didn't like it. I would pick my son up in the morning, take him to get a bottle and then a minute or so later the monitor would go off because it could no longer sense the baby breathing (of course not - the baby was no longer there!) I'd then have to rush back to my son's room to shut it off. You try to get in the habit of shutting it off before you pick up your baby, but all parents I've known who have had the Angelcare have forgotten to do that at one time or another. We played with the sensitivity settings and never got it to work quite right.

The Summer monitor is so sensitive, I can actually hear my son breathing on it (he is a bit of a heavy breather, though). That gave me more confidence than the Angelcare which I found to be more of a pain. Just a differing opinion than some here ...

Good luck! I know it can be overwhelming!

I would highly recommend the Angel Care Monitor. It has an alarm that goes off if the baby stops breathing. We have used it with both our girls. There have only been a few false alarms and that was when they got older, closer to 10 months when they rolled around the crib more.

The cost has gone down and at Babies R' Us it's about $79.99. There is a new and improved model that's more due to the range and it tells you the room temperature.

It really gives you peace of mind.

I also HIGHLY recommend tha Angel Care one for the same reasons others mentioned. I loved knowing it would go off if my baby stopped breathing. It only gave one false alarm and that was because he had somehow crammed himself into the bumper pads in a weird position. It made me sleep much better knowing I didn't have to check his breathing all the time.

I think the best one is the Summer video monitor. It retails anywhere from $180 to $200. But it really is priceless. It is the best thing ever to be able to see my baby (and hear him) while he is in his crib. No sneaking in to peek in on him and running the risk of waking him up. It is great. It has two channels (A/B) and our neighbor across the street has the same one so if we change the channel and angle the monitor a certain way in one certain spot in the house, we can sorta see a very fuzzy image of their baby in her crib but we only found that out because they could see a very clear image of our baby in his crib when they switched their channel to ours. They could see our baby but we really couldn't see theirs no matter how hard we tried. We are good friends so we aren't freaked out by it or anything. No sounds are heard from the other baby's channel/crib though. You shouldn't be able to hear your neighbor's baby and they shouldn't be able to hear yours even if you have the same exact monitor and switch channels. Does that make sense? Anyway, my sister has the same monitor and she doesn't have any problems seeing or hearing other neighbors. Hope this helps.

Summer Infant handheld video monitor. Works great! Fast, friendly customer service. We can see our neighbor's child if we switch channels, but as others have said, it is really not an issue. Also, we have wireless internet and this has not affected the monitor. Good luck!

I highly recommend the Bebe Sounds Angel Care monitor. I had a 31 week preemie and it gave me peace of mind to know that the alarm would go off of he stopped breathing. It is the best! We have had zero problems out of it. Several of my friends use it and love it as well!

For a basic (non-video) monitor - we have really liked our Sony BabyCall monitor. We have neighbors with monitors and we have wireless internet - no problems at all there. I didn't feel that I needed to pay extra for a video monitor - if she's awake, I hear her, and if she's asleep, all is quiet.

I really recommend the Summer video monitor - we have absolutely loved ours. It's great to click the button and be able to see your little one. We've had ours over a year and haven't had any issues. And I believe with the newer models they have changed it so no one outside your home can see the baby (if your neighbor happens to have the same monitor).

I have to say that we had a baby montior and rarely used it with the first and NEVER used it for the second. I would have rather had $40 worth of diapers and wipes. Our house is just slightly bigger than yours-2100 square feet, and you can hear whenever baby makes a sound. Unless you live in a mansion or spend lots of time outside on the patio or something like that while baby is inside, you just really don't need it.

Summer Infant Handheld Video Monitor. I've had mine for 14 months and love it. I also bought one for each of my brothers when their sons were born. There are 2 different screen sizes in the handheld, 2 inch and 1.5 inch. Be sure to get the bigger one if you choose this brand. I bought mine online, I think drugstore.com and saved about $20. I bought my brother's new on ebay and got them the smaller screens but saved about $50 on each one. Theirs is great too but I like my bigger screen better.

I had an angel care monitor with both my first two kids...who are now 12 and 6. so, i think we had one of the first models of angel care. anyway, it worked sooooo great. i don't remember ever picking up anyone else (next door neighbor had a new born too when i had the 2nd child) even though i actually HAVE heard people talking on my cordless phone! LOL

anyway, i was also unable to sleep, worried that the baby(ies) would stop breathing so the motion sensor was a huge comfort to me. we rarely had false alarms and they weren't a big deal anyway. the sound and motion monitors both worked well for us. I plan to get the monitor again for my next child (due in April). I'm sure the first would have worked fine but when you have more than 5 years between kiddos you tend to get rid of everything! LOL

i've recommended the summer handheld video monitor to just about everyone who would listen. it's wonderful to get to actually see what your baby is doing. also, if it has any sort of issues the first year, they will send you a brand new one, no questions asked. it is expensive, but was such a lifesaver.

We have a Graco imonitor digital system - with one base and two parent units. No static. Great sound (or lights but no sound or lights and vibration). No interference with our wireless internet or bluetooth/cordless phones. Never heard anyone except my baby, nor had any problems with the system. I can even take a parent set across the street, and as long as I can still see my baby's bedroom window, the monitor works just fine (online info says it has a range of 2000 feet). And to answer why the wireless may matter - if all your components are transmitting on the same frequency (5.8 megahertz, for example), then you may get some interference and/or cross-talk since the transmitted signal from one unit can then be received by any receiver searching for that same frequency.

We LOVE the Summer Day and Night Hand Held Color Monitor...I believe it was $170 a year ago, but totally worth it. We put it on our registry, and someone bought it for us! No amount of money compares to peace of mind. Whenever people ask me what the most helpful thing has been for me as a new mom, it was this monitor and a bouncy seat :) We live in an apartment, and have had some static, but I just turn the volume down and the lights will light up if she makes a noise. At night, if I think I hear her, I just click the video on to see...very convenient, and keeps you from having to get out of bed when you think you hear every little noise the baby is making.

I also vote for the Summer Handheld video monitor. It gets great "reception" and great audio as well. Night vision, and I walk over to the neighbor's house with it, or go outside to plant flowers, etc and it always works. Plus it has two different channels so if you have another baby soon, you would just need to buy another wall fixture for it and you could see both kids on the one monitor. We love it, I always say that it's a must have for all parents!!!!

We bought the BébéSounds Angelcare Movement Sensor w. Sound Monitor w. Two Parents' Units. It's $80 on amazon right now with free shipping. It has a very clear sound monitor and it monitors your baby's motions with a sensor under the mattress. If your baby quits breathing in the night, an alarm will go off. (We had a few false alarms, but if the monitor under the crib is placed correctly, there are no problems.) You will get so much extra sleep not worrying about your baby in the night.

We too registered for one that ended up having horrible reviews..and it was expensive. We traded it for a $30-$40 Safet 1st one and LOVE it. It has 2 parent sets which was a must because we have 2 floors and our son is upstairs. The sets can be plugged in or on batteries. Another biggy was that the sets work up to 400ft from the base. I could go work in the yard and hear perfectly fine with no static. We've never had interference with other monitors and there's at least one child in every house surrounding us.
My neighbors bought one of those expensive video monitors and it's a piece of junk. Statics a lot, will cut out, etc. Her and another friend of mine both went and got the same one we have and love it as well. We've had this one for just over 3 yrs now and it still works as good as new.
