Need Jeans/pants to Fit My Tiny 3T Darling!

Hi Mamas,

I need help...if any of you have been in this situation....nothing seems to fit my slim 3T girl. I don't think she is skinny, however she does not have much hiney to hold her pants up, so if they don't have elastic such as pull on pants, then they don't want to stay up and it's really aggravates her. Any suggestions on slimmer fitting jeans or cords? I have bought her some at childrens place(which use to fit in a 2T) Now that she is growing taller, but not much larger, they don't want to stay on(even on the last button adjustment) I really appreciate any suggestions you might have!

What can I do next?

I have a really small 5 year old boy and I buy the pants that are adjustable but I've also used mitten clips (the ones that you use to attach the mittens to the jacket. I found them at Target. A 2-pack is 1.99 I think) I would attach one end on his belt loop and attach the other to the other loop. Usually skipping one loop. They are elastic and he can still get his pants down to use the restroom with out help. Good luck

I have the same issues with my son. I get his jeans/pants from Old Navy and Target. They have elastic adjustable straps on the inside of them. They are great, his waist is an 18 month, but he's 3 and is tall. Good Luck.

I find pants that are adjustable waist. This allows her to grow into the width since she already needs the length. I have found them at Target and Children's Place. Hope this helps.

You may have already tried this but Old Navy's jeans seem to run slimmer and usually they have the adjustable waists as well. I have two DD's and one is like yours and the other is the opposite...Old Navy fits the smaller one very well and the other not so much. HTH

I've been having the same problem with my daughter. Old Navy's 'Girlfriend' style slim fit jeans have worked best.

I love teh pants with teh adjustable waist on the inside. My 8 year old has not butt. She usually wears a size smaller b/c seh is short as well but the adjustable waist is great. Several brands carry these...even wal-marts fade glorys. Check around. Also, levi's and old navy. Good luck!

Most places have the adjustable waist bands now. You'll probably have to go with those for quite some time, both my kids had to. I was so thankful when I found those!

You might have to get out the old Singer and make her some pants. They are easy to make, especially with an elastic waist.

My daughter wears cloth diapers and so she needs a little extra room in the rear. The Children's Place and Gymboree fit the best, so they would probably not work for your little girl. We have some MUDD jeans that are really slim in the rear, but I don't know where to buy them (we buy all our clothes second-hand at thrift stores). And Old Navy jeans are really slim too. They're cute, but I'll have to wait until she's potty trained to wear them.

They are making alot of jeans with the adjustable waist now, too, so always make sure they have that feature.

If she is tall enough to wear size 4, you might try getting 4 slims from the little girl dept. They are MUCH slimmer than a 4T. We discovered this when trying to get jeans to fit my slim little niece.

I don't know how bad the problem is for you, but it was really bad with my daughter, so I got out my sewing machine. I'd cut allllllll the way up the side seam of a pair of pants and then re-sew it, taking in a half inch or so on each side. Sometimes there'd be a rivet near the pocket, so I'd have to align the sides of the pants so the rivet ended up getting cut off, but it was never noticeable once the job was done. Also, be sure to do this with pants that have belt loops off-set. A belt loop at the center of the side seam will pose a problem! My daughter is now 15 and instead of taking in the sides, I'm taking up the length (hemming). I'd order custom jeans, but it's too expensive! Good luck!

I have the same issue with my daughter. Kohl's sonoma jeans/cords come in slim and fit her well. She is wearing Levi's right now with the adjustable waist and I have them as tight with the band as it goes and they still fall down to show her hiney, so on those I have to put a belt on her. I just bought Sear's brand reg. jeans which do not have the adj. waist and they fit O.K., but still need the belt. I have had good luck with Carter pants, they run slimmer. For her figure I think the jeans with the adj waist are worse because there seems to be more room. Good luck finding the perfect pants.

I'm with Cindy. My sister has the same problem with my 3 year old niece. She only buys Levi's with the adjustable waist. They have them on sale at Sam's Club for $12 right now too! We just bought some yesterday.

K.,

My granddaughter used to have the same problem. We found a brand at Sears (don't remember the name any longer but I believe they still have them) that had a 'hidden' elastic at the wasteband that was adjustable. They worked well for several years until she got a little more meat on her bones!!! She still doesn't have much, but now fits into slims.

Good luck and happy holidays!

A belt may be helpful. There are cute kid belts, which are easy for kids to use at www.myselfbelts.com

My 2 yr old has very long legs so I put him in 3T pants. They are very big in the waist area so I either get the brand from Target with the "adjustable" waist band, or I get him pants with loops so he can use a belt. The belts and pants with loops are from Nordstroms and J Crew.
The adjustable ones are from Target and only $9 -$14 a pair.

I have that problem with my 5 year old and my 9 year old girls, very long and slender. We buy their jeins at Walmart, or Goodys, because you can get them with the adjustable waistband inside the top of them, its simply a piece of elastic that has several little button holes in it that you pull from each side of the waist and hook it on the button where it fits right. They are a godsend when you have long skinny kiddos. They aren't expensive either, and they make some really cute ones that the girls love.

My oldest son is hard to fit, also. He is maybe a 2T in the waist and a 4T or boy's 4 or 5 in length depending on the jeans or pants. I buy all his pants and jeans at the Children's Place and more recently Old Navy because they have elastic strips so you can take them up at the waist.

Hi K., although it was years ago, my daughter had the same problem as a toddler. I bought mainly leggings (tshirt pants) for her to wear under long shirts. She also wore a lot of dresses with cute tights under them. They didn't have the adjustable waist band jeans then either and belts seemed to weight her pants down even worse so I bought her a hat band from the western store, she wore it as a belt for years. It buckles the same way but is made very narrow and light weight.

With my son, we bought adjustable waist jeans but like some of the other moms, some brands fit tighter. The ones that fit him the slimmest are the old navy brand. Walmart jeans never fit well, the overall cut is much wider, even the legs.

I know she is a girl, but look into boys pants at JC Penny or eaven Wal-Mart, they have an elastic adjuster in them. I had this problem with my son and they worked wonders, he could not stay in the smaller size due to length. I got some at JC Pennys that will go a size smaller, from 4T to 3T. Good luck, they also have some slims in Wranglers. I found these at the Justin boot outlet, might be too far for you, but you might check for stuff like that.

My 5 year old son is the same way and it is horrilbe fitting him for pants! I love summer simply because you don't have to worry about the length of shorts and just buy for his waist!

I don't know if boys' cuts are the same as girls' cuts, but we have the best luck with Slim Boot Cut fits. There are some Slim cuts that aren't as slim as others, and it may just take trial and error for you. I also only buy pants with the adjustable waist band. The brands that seem to work best for us have been Arizona, Lee, and Levi.

Best of luck!

There are probably more moms on here with better advice but my daughter is almost 14 now...

When she was a 3T (oh how I miss that stage) I bought at GAP. The adjustable waistbands were a great asset.

Good luck, before you know it she will be like mine and into the preteen sizes and looking like a fine young woman! Time Flies.

Have you tried Gymboree? They really fit my daughter well and she is also hard to fit. I believe all of their jeans have the adjustable waist so you can tighten the waist. They are a little more expensive but if you can catch them on sale they are reasonable. Hope this helps. V.

I have 2 boys with the same issue. I have 2 and 4 years olds that both have about an 18/24 mo waist (so easy in the summer) and a 4T length! I get the adjustable side bands by Levis, Childrens Place and sometimes Walmart! They also have belts that are elastic and clip in the front for easy potty time up and down. I really do get lots of stuff from Kid to Kid.

Good Luck!
