Need Help with Recipes for Dinner for Bfing Mom

Hello everyone,
I'm breastfeeding DD (3 weeks old tomorrow) and I'm having a devil of a time figuring out dinner. DD gets very gassy/spits up if I have anything with tomatoes, onions, broccoli, mustard, chocolate, or be carbonated or have dairy in it. Funny enough, I did have curried chicken one night and she was fine - go figure!

My brain is a bit foggy from the long days/ nights recently, and I'd really appreciate if anyone has some recipes they can share without any of the above ingredients - it seems everything I ate while pregnant, with the exception of roasted chicken with potatoes and curried chicken, is off limits for a while.

Thank you all in advance :)

What can I do next?

try roasted Pork Loin & Rice, (basmatti rice is great and full of nutrition, but brown rice has more fiber)

Try stir fry without any of the offensive ingredients -- over quinoa, rice noodles, rice or pasta -- teriakyi sauce, soy sauce, garlic, olive oil, chicken/tofu/and or beef with some veggies but not the ones you have listed as bad - cook that up and add the carbs at the end after it is cooked or prepared as directed on the box until the liquid is mostly absorbed. Should be AOK.

Also, maybe chicken nuggets or tenders with honey to dip in (not mustard or ketchup) and sweet potatoes or sweet potato fries, etc.

Just have to think outside the box. You can find dairy free recipes on-line and then avoid the other offensive items. My daughter is dairy allergic so there are soy or rice cheese options (though they don't taste AS good), soy or rice milk options, etc.

Good luck!

First, I recommend all my moms to start their day with this: www.BestBreakfastEver.com.
Second: eat small meals every time your baby eats. Have them ready to eat while feeding or right after.
Third:
- Veggie lasagna
- Eggs: Omelets stuffed with veggies
- Whole grain rice with veggies (my kids LOVE a mixture of tomatoes, green onions, olive oil and Italian seasoning warmed in the over and sprinkled over rice)
- Pasta – get creative – ANYTHING goes on pasta
- French toast sticks
- Whole wheat pancakes with fresh fruit
- Stirfry
- Soups – minestrone, cream of broccoli, tortilla, pumpkin the choices are endless!
- Oh so sea shells: Buy large sea shell pasta and stuff them with anything carrots, broccoli mushrooms, cheese, asparagus, etc
- Tortellini
- Pasta salad
- fajitas
- quesadillas
- enchiladas
- wraps – my kids put EVERYTHING in a tortilla wrap – even cold spaghetti!
- grilled cheese with veggie IN or on the side
Fourth: Stay away from
C.R.A.P -
Caffeine,
Refined Sugar,
Additives and
Preservatives.

Pan baked chicken with a balsamic glaze and avocado is yummy and nutritious. Here's my recipe: http://www.yourlifevents.com/2010/07/27/feast-easy-breezy...

Just edit out the onions and anything else that you think won't work for you, so long as you still use the balsamic vinegar, it should still be tasty. Throw in some fresh green beans to the pan as well and saute them so they have the taste of the glaze as well.

How about something like cashew and/or almond encrusted chicken? I don't have a recipe per se (just thinking off the top of my head), but if you have a food processor, just grind up the nuts, dip the chicken in a little egg, then flour, then the nuts and pan or oven bake. Serve with cubed, roasted butternut squash (something different from potatoes and less starchy).

Another idea off the top of my head (so you might have to tell us if it's any good), how about a cheese-less and tomato sauce-less (I can't believe that is coming out of my mouth) pasta type bake - bake some chicken breast with lots of good meditteranean seasonings, then grind it all up in your food processor, boil some pasta to just before al dente (in the last 2 minutes drop in some frozen peas). In a casserole bowl, mix the chicken and pasta/peas with 1 can cream of chicken soup and 1 can cream of mushroom soup (can you do those with the whole dairy issue? if not, maybe just use some chicken broth), add a little worcestshire (sp?) sauce or dry sherry, and some italian bread crumbs, top with french fried onions and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20-30 minutes.

I think you can substitute a lot of things by using more seasonings & vegetables. Substitute the parmesan cheese & tomato sauce on chicken parmigiana with italian bread crumbs, zucchini, squash, etc. Pan-bake the chicken in white wine and chicken broth with lots of seasoning, remove from pan while chicken is still pink on the inside, coat the chicken with the italian bread crumbs and put in a casserole dish, cover the chicken and casserole dish with lots of veges like zucchini, squash, carrots, etc. and bake in the oven until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees (no more pink on the inside and the juices run clear). Hopefully you can still do garlic because it truly makes such a difference in so many recipes.

Good luck!

I'm breastfeeding also, and I find that the things that give me gas pass on to her. I thought there were lots of things I couldn't eat at first, but I've actually narrowed it down to just onions and bananas. If I eat those things in moderation (just a few onions in a meatloaf or half a banana), she doesn't seem to notice. Be sure to experiment with your foods to make sure it isn't just one thing instead of a lot of guesses.

I ate hot wings and a pasta with heavy garlic, and she didn't even blink. Babies are so mysterious! :)
