Need Fix for Weak Nails

For the past 10 years I had acrylic nails but about 6 months ago, I stopped having them done. They grew out & with the help of 'Triple Power Gel Strengthener' made by Nutra Nail, became stronger. In the past week they've started 'peeling' as I call it....a layer will start to pull away from the nail & then, being the HUGE picker I am, I peel it off. So, now my nails are very thin, weak & break easily. Any moms out there have a relatively inexpensive product they can recommend to help strengthen my nails?

What can I do next?

Jello - - - you can eat it or soak in it - - - eating it works better I think - -- when you make it you can water it down a bit so it's not so sweet....

Buy Knox unflavored Gelatin and put it in your food and whatever else you can think of to ingest it. Lol It doesn't have any taste really. It is very good for you nails and your joints (since you work out)It comes in powder form and you can even make Jello out of it but you have to add food coloring and flavor (directions should be on the box)Good luck

I have the same problem. I figure it is because my body doesn't absorb calcium as it should. There's a calcium supplement available at Curves that has something in it to allow your body to better absorb the calcium that I've meaning to get. I've had this problem since my daughter was born. My nails used to be really strong and grow really long. Sally Hansen has some good nail products for stregthening.

I used to have that problem too, but I started taking vitamins and my nails are like steel, and they grow like weeds. You could try that. I take vitamins from the Melaleuca company. They aren't that expensive and they are awesome.

Hi K.,
I too have recently removed acrylics, I have been using Avon's strong results length and strength complex. It has the consistency of water and is to be used on unpolished nails. I am applying 3 x's a day. It is on sale right now for $3.99. Visit my website at www.youravon.com/pamelamartinez.

I read the responses and i do agree with the viatiam thing, viatiams will do it, someone said something about Melaluca viatiams, thier great, they work great, thier a bit pricey though. Try viataim D. Alph Alpha viatiams, they work wonders on your skin, hair and nails, i swear by them, you can get a huge bottle from GNC for about $9.99 and they last forever, i swear by these. But the Meleluca ones are good too. If you want to know more about Meleluca, please E-mail me. Good Luck!

Okay well the old trick in our hispanic family is to use garlic! I know its nasty but my aunts nails were always thin and see through and my grandama use to tell her to rub garlic on her nails and to masage all the juice in her nail and yeah after 2 weeks streight it harden her nails so you should try it. Have you tried taking Calcium with Vit D supplements or even prenatal vitamins. I too have weak nails always have, but I notice that while I'm on either of these my nails aren't prone to such peeling and breakage.

Take prenatal vitamins! They will strengthen your nails, as well as provide other nutrients you are probably lacking. I took them and went from weak peeling nails to having to trim and file them constantly as they got strong and grew like weeds! I get mine at a great wellness store, contact me if you would like more information.

Usually prenatal vitamins are good for hair and nails but they are very expensive. Calcium, Vitamin D, Omega-3 Fats, and B Vitamins are very important to your nails and other important areas in your body. If you don't like to take pills then just make sure to eat foods that have those ingredients naturally in the foods.

Here is some information that I discovered on the internet for you....
* The nutrients that are absorbed in your body are directly reflected in the appearance of your nails. Specifically Vitamin B, calcium and plenty of protein are essential for healthy nails.
* Protect your hands and nails from harsh detergents and cleaners by wearing rubber gloves whenever you will be in contact with such chemicals. Be sure to wear gloves while gardening also.
* Moisturize nails and cuticles at least once a day, preferably right before retiring for the night.
* Give your nails a break from polish- the more your nails are allowed to breathe, the less they will chip or break.
* Try applying a hardening polish before you apply regular polish. This way, the polish will be less damaging to your nails.
