Need Feedback on Becoming an Avon Representative!

Hello all! First, a little background..... I used to work for Clinique for 3 years and found that I am really good at doing people's makeup. (I love to do it also!) However, retail hours and standing ALL day were not a plus for me :) I have since become a SAHM and really could use some extra income because no matter what, we are always short and living paycheck to paycheck. I was looking into something that I could do from home or do my own hours. I have been seriously considering becoming an Avon rep and was wondering if any of you out there have done it and could give me some feedback positive or negative. I am not expecting to make a lot of money doing this but would like to make some extra spending cash-its something right?! It bothers me that their website isn't very informative and kind of cryptic (not actually telling you anything but facts about how great a company they are....HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY??? ,etc) Also, I was wondering if they allow you to make up your own sales for things and if I can do makeovers etc. I was thinking "IF YOU SPEND X THEN YOU GET A FREE MAKEOVER!" Please let me know what you think and thanks in advance! ALSO....please don't repsond with a bunch of "I sell this beauty product or some special drink mixes" etc. Plus I prefer Avon over Mary Kay Thanks again and I appreciate your feedback! :)

What can I do next?

I am an Independent Mary Consultant and I think it's so much more worth it. More profit, you receive recognition for work well done. I just got pearl earing for sharing with others. You get free products all the time and you make great friends. Mary Kay is also a charitable organization for cancer research and domestic violence and stands behind a powerful message of pride and passion. I would love to talk to you about it.

I did sell Avon for a short time, but I also worked f/t, and I just did not have the time to put into it that I needed to to make money. It only cost me $10 to start, and they do not make you buy any product.

You can do your own sales. If you wanted to buy extra product to give away as gifts you could do that, or as you stated makeovers if you spend so much money. That would be a great way to bring in business especially if you sell the Mark line (geared towards the younger crowd). Showing the younger girls how to apply makeup would be great.

Good luck.

I am not a consultant. But, you might consider Mary Kay. They are more about makeovers, I think. I remember an old friend starting up with them, and one of the things they have to do is makeover a certain number of faces (25?) in 30 days. I have been to several MK spa and makeup parties. Also, Beauty Control is another great company. To be a consultant is a much lower buy in and you can do whatever you want as far as selling. They have great micro-derm products and skin care. I have been to a few of their spa parties and they were very nice. If you want more info about Beauty Control, you can send me a message and I can get you in contact with my friend that sells it to answer your questions.

There is a really wonderful company called Votre Vu that is fine french skin care. I have a really great business associate who is absolutely wonderful.

This may be an answer for you. Let me know if you want Judy's information but they do things as you mentioned and she can tell you how the payment plans work.

I ran across some VERY negative feedback on Avon when surfing the internet one day. I wouldn't want to repeat the feedback here because it is not my own personal experience, but I think it would be wise to do a similar search of your own. Good luck!

Hi M.,
Would you be interested in listening to a one hour webinar from another company with multiple patents on it's skincare and cosmetics? No pressure, just facts. If you call in, no one knows how to contact you unless you request a follow up.

I am also a Mark Kay consultant and LOVE...LOVE Mary Kay!!! You make 50% off the top!!!! You also earn lots of fun cute things like jewlery, purses, dishes and much more. You can also earn trips and cars. Way worth it 110%! I also love that MK thinks God, Family and career is that awesome or what?!!! W

I have known a few people to do Avon. and in my opinion for it to work you mainly have to have all your family and friends buy your product. A lot of people are being more cautious with there spending so retail seems to not be doing so good lately. I am a Financial Adviser and my company is doing mass expansions in our area so we are needing more people for these offices. I am a SAHM of four and I have no problem because I set my own schedule. Plus I help families become debt free and properly protected. If your interested then e-mail me at ____@____.com and I can give you more details. One happy mom to the next I LOVE MY WORK. Nothing feels better about a job than knowing you changed a families life for the better!!!!!!!

My girlfriend just recently started selling Avon and for the first 6 months she makes 40% and after that it's 20% of what you sell. Her upline is not much help so she's been quite frustrated in trying to figure things out on her own. I know she's been doing it for about 3 months and hasn't been making too much, but she needs to develop a customer base. As for makeovers - I know that is something that Mary Kay does, but you are an independent consultant with Avon and you can do whatever you want. I am a BIG fan of Avon, but not so much of Mary Kay. They're all right, but I find that Avon has better makeup (and cheaper too)! I say go for it!
