Need Make-up Advice

Whatever makeup you choose, I'd suggest you and others on this thread look at this website. It is the Skin Deep website that gives unbiased ratings of all the cosmetics companies with a list of ingredients and how high on a scale of 0-10 the danger is of each ingredient. Just type in the name of a company such a Mary Kay or Arbonne and see what is really in the makeup. I've spent alot of time reseaching safe cosmetics this week trying to decide what kind to get and have decided to order from www.coastalclassiccreations.com in the end. I will pick up some Physician's Formula in the meantime. I'm already a big fan of the blush so look forward to trying some of the others.

If there is one in your area, the Merle Norman cosmetic stores will do a "make-over" for you and teach you how to apply makeup correctly for your skin tone, etc. I applaud you for asking this question!! You Go Girl!!

I am not a Mary Kay rep, but I would suggest that you go to the Mary Kay site and find a local person to help you. My sister-in-law is a Mary Kay lady and if she lived closer to you I would suggest her. I have found that most Mary Kay reps are helpful and know what they are talking about. The make-up is good quality and the most important part is there is someone who can help you since you have not worn make-up in a long time.

You should try the Bare Escentuals makeup. If you go to their store then they give you a complete makeover and makeup lesson plus the starter makeup kit comes with a DVD that gives many different makeup lessons. It is the best makeup that I have ever used.

I know it may be a bit pricey, but MAC does a GREAT job with not only giving you great products, but they teach you how to put it all on. The thing I loved about them is I told them what kind of a look I was wanting and we went from there. She even asked the major color in my wardrobe to make sure I had something that would work with what I normally wear. She was great...very informative and helpful. I loved the outcome and think they have great products. I figure it's an investment (I didn't want to try and figure the right shades and colors for my skin b/c I never got it right and wasted money that way.) Anyway, they're in most malls and in smaller malls where they don't have their own store, they are often found in Macy's. Hope this helps and have fun!

If you have a consultant in your area Mary Kay would be the best way to go. She will match you exactly to your colors and teach you how to put it on correctly. Where are you located?

You can go to a place like kohls or some department store and they have make-up ladies that can give you a free facial and some great advice! It is very fun!

Clinique will do your make-over...

Mary Kay and Avon are both good products
Both come with a consultant who can advise you
go light and "natural" not to heavy on eye shadow. Less is best
Avon has a mineral powder which hides inperfections and brings out your natural beauty. Mary Kay has great products as well. Don't buy real cheap make up or that is how you will look.

Mary Kay would probably be the better choice. If you call them they sometimes will give make up classes. It is kinda like a candle party but with make up. Good luck!

I recently started using Mary Kay and am pretty happy with it. You could call a local consultant and tell her that you want a makeover. I am using their liquid foundation and then dusting their mineral powder foundation over the top and finishing with a bronzer instead of blush. The combination has given me a fresh and flawless look. I have just a little acne and using the powder on top really covers it well. You could find out if you like it and then host a party. I have oily skin and it made my skin very oily. So much so that if I touched my face the makeup would come right off and then you could tell where I had no makeup on. I LOVE Bare Minerals. I get mine from Sephora--plenty of willing people to show you how to use it. Plus, you can get a starter kit that includes a DVD on how to apply it. I've used Mary Kay, Avon, etc in the past and by far Bare Minerals is the easist and offers the best coverage. I tried Mary Kay's mineral makeup and the coverage was awful.

first off, don't listne to anyone who tells you that you have to pay an arm and a leg for makeup. it's just not true.i have used some department store brands and am usually just content using something like cover girl products. also, you can look up tutorials on youtube.com to learn different ways to apply makeup. literally, just type in makeup tutorials, or even more specific areas like eye makeup tutorials, ect... good luck and have fun with it!

I recommend finding a Mary Kay rep! I've used Mary Kay since I was a teen. I've always loved the skin care products (and will only use them on my face) and the makeup always last me awhile b/c I don't wear much.

I suggest going to the mall and getting a makeover. Este Lauder, Merle Norman, Clinique or somewhere like that. Their make up is much higher quality, looks more professional, and their consultants have better training. Plus, many times you can buy your favorite perfume and receive discounted or free make up at Este Lauder. They have large sets you can buy with everything pretty much in it. Or, sometimes I get make overs there and then go to CVS or Walgreen and find less expensive brands.

I have very sensitive skin, and I cannot wear any brand with oils, water, talc, or powder bases. I use Mineral Wear by Physician's Formula. That's the only thing I can wear right now.

My favorite is Bare Minerals. I would suggest the starter kit, if you have an ULTA nearby they sell it and do a demo for you so that you can learn how to apply (very quick and easy) and see what color would work best. It is natural and natural looking and you don't have to worry about having your face up against your childs with it on.

As a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant I recommend the product. With Mary Kay you are able to try all products before you buy them plus, your beauty consultant can give you lessons on make up application. I became a consultant to receive my product at a discount. I have extremely sensitive skin and this is the only product line that I can use all products. all products are hypoallergenic and are not tested on animals. Hope this helps.

I would try Mary Kay. I have used it for over 10 years and have been happy with it. I think you can find a Mary Kay consultant in your area if you go to the Mary Kay website at www.MaryKay.com The consultant will come to your house and teach you how to apply the makeup.

We have a friend at church who sells Mary Kay and she has done a couple "make-up lessons" -- one for the girls in our youth group and then one for the women in a retreat that we had... they were both great!!!! Let me know if you live anywhere near Boardman, OH and I can hook you two up.

As long as your skin isn't super sensitive, I would suggest going to Kroger or walmart, or somewhere like that and purchasing your foundation or powder (Cover girl or someting like that, depending on your skin type). From there, I would buy some off brand make up (like from the hair stores) and experiment until you find the different color palets that best suit your skin color and hue. After that, I would advise y ou to invest in some quality products that you will be able to use. It totally unecessary to purchase the $10, $11, and $12 cosmetics if you are not sure you will be able to use them. Once you open them, you cannot take them back! However, if your skin is sensitive, you will want to invest in quality product in order to avoid any break outs!

That's just my suggestion.

I am an Arbonne consultant and I have never found a skin-care, makeup products that is so friendly to the face. I can help you find an consultant. The products are safe, pure, and carry the Vegan seal. Price range are around the same as Mary Kay. We offer an Hollywood Makeup Makeover from a professional makeup artist by the name of Krista Embry and she is awsome. You can even download the look you prefer and watch it to continue to learn the technique you love.

You could always go to the makeup counters in the mall stores and ask them to give you a lesson. They do it for free but they do expect you to buy something when its over. As far as Avon, the person selling doesnt always do makeup either. Do you know anyone who does a really nice job on their own make up? I would ask them.

Go to your local department store and get a free make over. Wear it for the rest of the day before buying expensive products. Buy some cheap make up and experiment. Jest remember to BLEND!

You could go to a make-up counter, but that's in a mall or store "in front of everybody". If you go with Avon or Mary Kay, you can have a consultant come to your house, and try stuff that way "in the comfort of your own home." Plus I've tried the stuff from the stores (like clinique, etc.) and they always made my face break out.

I've always had good luck with Amway's Artistry line. If you're going to decide between Mary Kay and Avon, I'd go with Mary Kay. I'm sure Mary Kay and Amway's line are a little pricier than Avon - I just feel like if you're putting your "best face forward" then get quality products and you'll look better.

Hi E. - I second Bare Escentuals! There is a store on the bottom floor of Beachwood Mall. I love the minerals instead of the liquid foundation. It lasts longer too (at least for me). They will show you how to apply the makeup and decide which colors are best for you.

I recommend Mary Kay. When you have a consultant they will teach you not only how to put it on but what are the right colors for you, the differece between warm and cool colors and which you should wear when. So even if you decide not to use their make up you will have a good idea on what looks good on you. Although I have been using MK for the last 12 years and highly recommend it especially their foundation.

I started using bare minerals after being very loyal to Lancome and I've never had so many compliments. I absolutely love it and will never go back to anything else. I got the starter pack which had a dvd to show you how to apply it. You could also go to Sephora and I'm sure they would show you how to apply it.

i was annoyed when i had a mary kay makeover recently that we spent most of the time on skin care products (that made me break out in tons of acne, not good) and only a few minutes on actual make up application.

there's a great website that lists ingredients of cosmetics and their toxicity rating... there are cancer causing ingredients and other unhealthy things in lots of make up. so be smart about your purchases and what you put on your face. cosmeticsdatabase.com

i like burts bees, arbonne, and cheap stuff since i don't wear it very often (walmart brands like wet n wild...)

I wouldnt do Mary K..they are kinda a rip off and not that great.... avon has some decent prices... You can actually go to like Macey's or some place like that in the mall and they will show you how to put some stuff on... Of course they will try to get you to buy the product lol But places like that do alof of free makeovers and shows way of putting it on ;) hope that helps

If you live near an Ulta or Bare Escentuals store, I would go there and try the Bare Minerals makeup. It is wonderful, natural looking stuff and not overly expensive.

I sell Avon and love it. So of course that's what I'd recommend. It is affordable and good for sensitive skin. I get Eczema and have no problems with it. Let me know if I can help you any further.

I don't know if they have stores where you live, but I would suggest Merle Norman. They will give you lessons and help you pick out everything you need to get started. They also keep a log of everything you buy so you don't have to worry about forgetting which product you use when you go back.

I don't wear make-up to often either. But I LOVE Bare Minerals!!!!! It's really easy to apply and good for your skin because it doesn't contain talc and other chemicals. I always saw those infomercials on TV but wasn't sure if it would be for me. I heard from a friend that ULTA had all of the Bare minerals products and went to see if it would be something i liked. Once I tried it I LOVED IT!! I'll never go back to regular make-up. They also show you how easy it is to apply and best of all you can be done in about 3 mins. The only thing they don't have is mascara. If you don't like it, ULTA has many other brands you can try and their sales associates are really friendly. Best of all, you don't have to spend all that money on mary kay or other expensive brands. Let me know if you try it.
