I have 2 little girls and I need to find a good, NICE dentist that works well with children. I had one in Livermore and when I had my three year old there, they found a cavity and basically told me that she better not fuss at all or they were going to have to refer me to a specialist and it probably wouldn’t be approved by my insurance and it would just cost me more money. I’m sorry, she is THREE, of course she is going to be nervous and squirm!!! Anyway, if anyone knows of a good dentist that is patient with children and has a great beside manner, I would love a referral!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow Ladies I didn't think finding a dentist would be this hard!!! First I called Gentle Dentle, because I LOVE the name and that tehy had a Pediatric Dentist on sight, but she doesn't accept my insurance. Then I tried Linda Mori because 2 of you referred her, so she must be good. Same thing - she doesn't accept it either, nor does Micheal Ocampo. Needless to say I'm SHOCKED! I have Blue Cross/Blue Sheild - not an UNcommon health insurance. So I went through the list of all of the suggestions you guys gave me and only ONE is approved on my insurance - Dr. Timothy Hubbs in Livermore. I would really prefer to have someone in Pleasanton, so one more time - if anyone in Pleasanton that has Dental Blue has a great denist here close, let me know. Otherwise I will be calling Dr. Hubbs tomorrow. Thanks again ladies for ALL of your help!!!

I use Dr. Hubbs in Livermore ###-###-####. When we started going, my son was 3 and would not let go of me, and Dr. Hubbs had no problem doing the exam with him on my lap. My kids are now 8 and 6, and have absolutely no fears of going to the dentist, and my son (the 8 yo) has had to have many cavities filled.

He has children of his own, and while his practice doesn't specialize in only children, I have found it to be a WONDERFUL family practice. I refer people to him all the time and have never heard anything negative about their practice.

My personal dentist recommended Pediatric Dentistry San Ramon - not too far from Pleasanton. So far my son only has 8 teeth so I haven't taken him yet, but my dentist is great and said he takes his kids there. Their website is http://www.pediatricdentistry-sanramon.com.

Good luck!

Hi M.-
I HIGHLY recommend Little Smile Makers Children's Dentistry in Dublin. The dentist is Alex Wong. I have taken my kids to him and I (and the kids)lOVE him! He wasn't within my insurance's preffered list, so I had to pay a little more out of pocket, but it was so worth it to me to go to a place that my kids were comfortable. The walls are filled with under sea paintings, and there are toys for all ages. The kids get to sit on the chair and watch a disney movie above as they are getting their teeth worked on...you couldn't ask for a better place. His contact is ###-###-####. He is located at 4536 Dublin Blvd. I'm in Livermore, but it's still worth the trip to Dublin. CHeck him out. I think that you will be happy!

Hi M.,
I took my daughter at 2 who also has a cavity (4 now) to Dr. Stevan Nerad on Santa Rita across from the post office. His office isn't anything to look at and I thought it all could have looked better even him ;)... Anyway I had to evaluate the results in that he has the most calming effect on kids. Also he has treated her cavity and the rest of her teeth now with floride and MI paste. He is trying to postpone the filling until she is older and it has not grown, nor has it bothered her. I think he really took her into consideration. Again I would have liked more bells and whistles but the whole place is low key and I think it helps.

Hi M.,

Finding a good dentist is a must! I love the pediatric dentist at Gentle Dental in Pleasanton off Springdale rd. by the mall. Her name is Dr. Liaw, she is wonderful with children, even my two year old. She takes time after each visit to discuss your child's exam. She is so sincere and gentle, I feel fortunate to have found her. I had been going to a pediatric dentist in Danville, Dr. Schmidt. His office had all the bells and whistles but his dental work was hurried and poorly done. I had to have much of the work he did redone after less than a year.
Gentle Dental accepts most insurances. If your plan doesn't cover pediatric dentistry you can still see Dr. Liaw at no additional charge. She is their in house pediatric dentist. She works Wednesdays and some Tuesdays. My children tell me they like going to her much better than our other dentist. Even after all the work they have had to have done, they are not afraid to go to the dentist and trust her.

Hi,
I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Joshua Solomon in Livermore as well. I know it is not Pleasanton, but the whole office is really geared towards kids (tvs with kids' movies playing, toys everywhere, prizes, and so on)and they work with you if your child is upset or resistant. I actually had to pull my kids out of there because they wanted to stay and play! I started taking my kids there based upon several recommendations from other moms. They have been fantastic, and if they took adult patients, I would go there!

Hi M.,

That is wonderful that you can be at home with your girls! I'm very blessed to be a SAHM mom too, I don't miss working outside at all, even though I really enjoyed it.

I see that you already have several recommendations...but I'll give mine anyway. We all go to Dr Linda Mori in Pleasanton and love her! She is very patient and kind and also has tiny hands :). Her hygienists are wonderful too (all women). My daughter is 3 and 1/2 now but has been to Dr Mori 2x now for exam and cleaning. She has done GREAT both time with only a little squirming near the end...and so far we've had no problems as far as her teeth either, thankfully. We do brush well 2 or 3 times a day, floss 2x a day (with kid flossers because right now it's easier to work with them) and also she only drinks water and sometimes a little milk (she likes water so we see no need to have her drink sugary drinks). She also only has fruit for sweets except for special occasions so that helps a lot too (and she has never chewed gum, none of us really do)...so maybe these things are helping her teeth to stay strong too.

One more thing - we took Rachel to the dentist to just watch and check things out a time or two, and I schedule her appts (every 6 months) back to back with my own, so I have my cleaning and checking first while she watches and chatters, and then she has hers. So far so good!

Best of luck in choosing a dentist that will be right for you and your family! Maybe you can post again and let us know you you decided to try and how it went. :)
