Need a Gift Idea for a Great Bus Driver

Hello all! I'm stumped on a gift idea for our wonderful bus driver this year. Besides being a family friend, our bus driver is great at his job. He has never left my kids at the bus stop unless he could see that I was home. When I was expecting my third child and running late from a doctor's appointment, we was still waiting and trying to decide what to do. He's been our bus driver for the past 6 school years and I've used many gift ideas and I'm not into giving repeat gifts. We have done candy/cookie plate, mug and hot chocolate mix, various gift cards and several other little things (end of year gifts, too). If someone has any great easy and inexpensive ideas, I would greatly appreciate them. Tomorrow is really my last shopping day to get something.
Thanks in advance and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great ideas! Sorry to say, but I'm just now reading them...my little one came down with croup and I didn't make it out of the house. He ended up getting a candy/cookie platter and he was happy with that. I know he has a super sweet tooth and I had to work with what I had in the house. I will definately use those great gift ideas for the end of the year and next Christmas. Happy New Year to all!

Maybe a fruit basket or a gift certificate? If you know his wife or other family member, call her/him/them and ask what he likes. Repeat gifts are OK -- especially if the recipient LIKES them a lot!!

I may be too late, but I buy our wonderful bus driver a gift certificate to Lowes. I think any store that men like would be good. Since you personally know him, you would know what he likes more than I had an idea. I do 25.00.

Hope this helps!

There are some precious little bus driver christmas ornaments out there. Or those sweet visor clips about keeping the person safe. Starbucks gift card for those super cold mornings. I'm sure anything you decide on will be appreciated. ;0)

I know you said you'd done gift cards, but if there is a local gas station that has a coffee bar inside, I think a $10 card with a handwritten note that says something like, 'I can't thank you enough for all you've done for us over the year, and while this cannot top your generous spirit, relax, and have a cup of coffee on us and remember how much we appreciate you!'. If he doesn't like coffee, I am sure he can use the gas! I did something similar for the people who helped us move this summer. I could never pay them what they were worth, but I think the sentiment was not lost.

Merry Christmas!!

I'm a Mary Kay Sales Director and I suggest a Satin Hands Set especially this time of year because our hands get so dry. The extra emollient night cream is awesome and men use this too. I could mail you one wherever you are or you could find a local rep. Merry Christmas. D.

what about some really great gloves that would keep her hands warm when driving in the cold?

We gave our driver $5 cash. Drivers don't usually get presents at all, so the gesture is appreciated, and the cash will always be more appreciated that a gift. Bus drivers don't make much money.

Simple gift certificates to Blockbuster or a good restaurant in town are always good. We give gifts to our mail carrier and I usually give a cookie plate and a $10 gift certificate. One year I did Blockbuster, one year Dick's sporting goods. I have given gloves and a nice travel coffee/tea cup that is good for drivers. You could get that and a Starbucks gift certificate or just the gloves and a nice travel mug.

I say either a gas gift card or one to Walmart or Target. I was just talking to a friend that is a teacher and she said those are her favorites. One year she got 3 gift cards to Starbucks and ended up regifting them because she doesn't like coffee (or really anything else that they have). Along with a nice note, this would show that you care, and also show that you want them to get something they can use and appreciate (versus what you think they would like)! Merry Christmas to you too! :)
