Neat Apple Orchards near Ann Arbor
Hi, I am looking for a nice apple orchard in the Ann Arbor area to take the kids for a day trip. We are more than willing to drive an hour or so. I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Some charge admission and then more for the attractions. We'd like to pick a bag of apples, get some cider and donuts, have a "farm like" experience, eat a picnic lunch and go home. Thanks in advance.

Plymouth Orchard is pretty cool, it's on Warren just east of Gottfredson.

Wasem's is the place you're looking for. No admission, cider donuts, apples, pumpkins, and it's close to Ann Arbor (15 minute drive).
I haven't been to Wiard's in years because it is so over crowded, it is an absolute zoo!

There's Erwin Orchards up in South Lyon at Pontiac Trail and Silver Lake Rds. Very popular place.
There's (is it Plymouth Orchards?) on Plymouth/AA Rd heading towards Plymouth, near Gottfredson Rd or Ridge Rd. can't remember which roads they're near by, but my youngest went there with kindergarten classes years ago, and they have big flat beds to take visitors to certain apple types.
Between 7 & 8 Mile Rds on Currie there's another one. You'd head up Pontiac Trail towards South Lyon, and ...I'd turn right at 6 Mile, drive about 3.5-4 miles, turn left at the golf course that's on your right, and you're on Currie Rd. It's just past 7 Mile Rd. on the right somewhere.

I've heard that Wasem's (www.wasemfruitfarm.com) in Milan is awesome. I haven't been there yet, but we're going next week, and all of our friends rave about it. They said it's reasonably priced, not very commercial, and has delicious donuts and cider.
I've also heard good things about Alber's (www.alberorchard.com) in Manchester, but again, I've never been there myself.
Have fun!

Spicers Orchard just north of Howell has all you are looking for.
No admission fee. They have a farm area and play area which just requests a donation. Yummy cider and donuts and you can either pick your own, or buy a bag picked.
North on US23 to exit #70.
I've also heard good things about Erwins near Saline, I think it is. Never been though.
