Trying to find a place within an hour of KC metro to pick apples. Seems most of the orchards don't offer picking any longer and wondered if anyone knew of a place that does. Willing to travel a bit, but probably not more than an hour. Picking apples was one of my favorite memories of chilhood, and I'd love to create some new memories with my little ones too.
Thanks to everyone who responded. I was pleased to discover that my old favorite - Vaughn's - was still alive and kicking! My mother-in-law had told me that they cut down all their trees, which seemed odd, but I couldn't find any info on them online either. Plus, all the old standbys - Stephensons, Louisburg, etc. - no longer offer u-pick. We are going this weekend to Vaughn's (they opened last weekend) and then stopping across the street at the Red Barn (no picking there, but lots of fun kids' activities) Thanks again, everyone!
I just called Vaughn Orchard in Weston, MO and they are allowing you to pick this weekend!
They also said they had a good season this year, it was horrible last year and most apples were gone by the end of August.
It's very easy to go to. If you haven't been to Weston it's a great place to visit for the day.
We also pack a lunch and have a picnic at State Bend Park, they have a look out area, that over looks the river.

Have you tried the Wagon Wheel Orchard? They are in Gardner I think. Pendleton's is another one I've heard of for picking peas, and the Berry Patch is good for blueberries and blackberries. I think all of them have websites with current info. Have fun!!

My parents, sisters and I, and all of our children go every year to Sibley Orchards in Sibley, MO. Is it east of Blue Springs and north of Buckner. Good Morning! I think Vaughn Orchard in Weston still allows it, but you might call them and see. It's a nice drive up there and downtown Weston is fun to explore.

Can't you pick at Louisburg or is that just for cider and pumpkins? That was my favorite fall memory as a kid...the cider donuts are super yummy!

"We are going to Vaughn’s Apple Orchard in Weston, Missouri. Their U-pick Em starts this weekend. Across the street from the orchard is the Red Barn and they have animals to visit, pumpkins and fun things to do. We always visit both. It is a fun trip! I love this time of year!!
